Fined for public order offence

A €250 fine has been imposed on Gordon Eager (54), 178 Waterville Crescent, Tom Bellew Avenue, after he pleaded guilty to a charge of engaging in threatening, abusive and insulting behaviour.

The court was told that at 12.45am on 3 September last while gardaí were dealing with another incident in Waterville Crescent, the defendant was ‘highly abusive’ to officers. He was intoxicated and unsteady on his feet. There are 12 previous convictions. Solicitor Paula Tiernan said her client has a chronic alcohol addiction, but had not taken a drink since Christmas. He is rebuilding a relationship with his children amd is due to start a new job with an engineering firm.

The defendant was granted legal aid. A charge of being intoxicated in public was taken into consideration.
