Annual races return to cross country format

GLENMORE AC are will host their annual Kearney & McBride races for 2020 this Sunday, amidst the lovely grounds of Belurgan Park, bringing the senior races back to the traditiona­l cross-country format.

The Kearney cup was presented to the club in 1973 by DJ Kearney grandfathe­r of Rob and Dave Kearney. It is one of the few races in the north east that has continued over those years with the Kearney Cup going to the winning senior men’s team.

The McBride cup was presented to the club by club founder Mickey in 1996, and this is presented to the senior winning ladies’ team.

In 2010 the club were presented with the Johnny Mullen cup for the good athletics work the club were doing in the peninsula. This goes to the best performing juvenile club.

It is a new venue, a new course, the club are very excited about this and are delighted to be sharing the Bellurgan Park grounds with athletes from far and near.

These grounds will add to any cross-country race and its proximity to the MI is easy access for all. The Glenmore club are inviting all to take part, to register online at Primo Evennts for the seniors now to get the reduced rate.

the juveniles under 9/11/13/15 pay €2 on the line with all the clubs vying for the Johnny Mullen Cup.

The current holders are Bohermeeen AC from Co Meath.

Events start at 12 noon sharp with the juvenile programme and the senior races getting under way afterwards. The club is delighted with the new sponsorshi­p of ‘Bakers Takeaway’ Carlingfor­d for thw event.

The usual after race refreshmen­ts will be served before race presentati­ons.
