Cross-country joy continues for the local athletics clubs

-

A small contingent of St Peter’s athletes made the journey down the M11 to Avondale, Rathdrum, Co. Wicklow for the National Juvenile B Cross-Country Championships on Saturday.

This event preceded the National Master and Intermediate Championships.

The club had two athletes with podium finishes. Cian Gorham completed an unforgettable week, having last week won the Leinster Indoor U16 Championship, he added the National B Cross-Country with a very convincing run.

He led from from gun to tape without ever looking under pressure at any stage and appeared the likely winner from a long way out.

The under 11 boys race saw Donnacha Reidy show his undoubted ability with a strong performance from start to finish to claim a well-deserved second place and silver medal.

Donnacha is well used to looking at National B silver medals as his brother Oisin finished in the same position in the same race last year.

However, he will take much more satisfaction in winning his own.

The ever-willing Hannah O’Reilly had a good strong run, finishing just outside the medals, but gained more valuable experience and can take great satisfaction from participating in another national event.

The week ahead is another busy one for the club as it makes the now annual trip to Armagh City for the Armagh road races and then on Sunday it is hoped there will be a large St Peter’s contingent at Bellurgan Park to support Glenmore AC’s annual cross-country event where the Kearney and McBride Cups will be decided.
