Dundalk Grammar student Ayesha celebrates place on German language olympiad

-

DESPITE having been physically out of school for over two months, one Dundalk student is celebrating success in one of her favourite subjects!

Fifth year Dundalk Grammar student Ayesha Jallali has succeeded in gaining entry to one of the world’s top German language competitions.

Ayesha, who is taught by Grammar School German teacher Ms Kelly, was thrilled to have been confirmed recently as one of only fifteen students in Ireland to qualify for the National Final of the German Language Olympiad.

The prestigious Olympiad is a biennial international competition run by the Goethe Institute in 75 countries around the world.

Although a competitive event, it is not simply about students displaying their language and competing for the title.

The olympiad is seen equally as a cultural exchange between students of German from all around the world.

A spokesperson for the event said: ‘Contacts and friendships that develop will form a lifelong international network.’
