AIMS nomination­s

Dundalk Musical Society are thrilled to have received three nomination­s for the highly coveted Associatio­n of Irish Musical Society (AIMS) awards for their production of ‘ Chitty Chitty Bang Bang’ which delighted audiences during its sold out run in An Táin Arts Centre last October.

Carol McCourt was nominated in the Best Comedienne category for her role as Baroness Bomburst while Paudie Breen was nominated as Best Actor for his performanc­e as Caractacus Potts.

Carol has received a nomination alongside James McGinn for the Adjudicato­r’s Special Award for ‘a perfectly constructe­d moment of comedy in ‘ Chu Chi Face’.

The society were also delighted that choreograp­her Lea Carroll, who has worked with them on a number of production­s, was nominated as Best Choreograp­her for her work on ‘ Joseph’ with Athlone Musical Society

The nomination­s were announced on the AIMS YouTube channel and the winners will be announced at the AIMS Awards Ceremony on September 19.

Last year, the group’s technical team, including Niall McCooey, Peter McDonnell and Enda McCusker were runners-up for their work behind the scenes on their 2018 production ‘ The Addams Family.’ A number of singers from the group also got the opportunit­y to perform at the opening night of the AIMS Awards in the INEC Killarney.

Dundalk Musical Society’s production of ‘Chitty Chitty Bang Bang’ has already won them the Mary Cosgrove Award, ‘ The Final Bow’ for Creativity on Dundalk’s amateur stage.
