Seamus had many sporting interests

Séamus Connolly, Fatima Park, Dundalk, passed away peacefully on 27 April, 2020, in the wonderful care of the staff at the Stroke Rehabilita­tion Unit at Louth County Hospital.

He was beloved husband of his wife Margaret, and loving father of Kim, Bernie, Pauline, Joni, Séamus, Terri, Paul and Brendan; as well as being a much-loved grandfathe­r and great-grandfathe­r.

He was predecease­d by his children, Joseph and Margaret who died in infancy, his father Michael, mother Bridget, brother Michael, and sisters, Anna and Mary.

After attending primary school, Séamus started an apprentice­ship as a turner with GNR, Ardee Road, Dundalk.

For a short time, he worked at Whitegate Oil Refinery in

Cork. He returned to Dundalk and worked in Dundalk Engineerin­g Works and S&S, Ardee Road for a number of years and then went to work in PJ Carroll’s until his retirement.

Séamus was a strong union man and represente­d his fellow workers as a shop steward throughout his working life.

He had a lifelong love of soccer and Gaelic football and was a member of Clan na Gael GFC.

He loved horse racing and spent many happy hours watching and attending race meetings in the company of his many great friends.

He had a passion for music. Roy Orbison, Pavarotti and The Three Tenors were some of his favourites.

Séamus is survived by his wife, Margaret; eight children, thirteen grandchild­ren and three great-grandchild­ren; brothers, Thomas and Brendan; sisters, Christina, Breda and

Alice; extended family members and friends.

After reposing at his home his remains were removed to St Joseph’s Church, Fatima where the funeral Mass was celebrated by Fr Vinod.

Unfortunat­ely, under the strict protocol set down because of COVID-19, attendance at Séamus’ home and funeral had to be restricted.
