BEACH CLEAN AT THE QUAY

As we enter Phase two of the lifting of the COVID-19 restrictions, the Peninsula Marine Litter Project is looking forward to getting back into action.

There was much annoyance around the litter, including a massive amount of alcohol containers left following an ill advised beach party at Gyles Quay.

Having received guidence as to how to proceed with their valuable work cleaning up beaches around the peninsula, the group are embarking ont heir first socially distanced clean up of Gyles Quay on Saturday at 2pm.

They will have their quad and a recently acquired trailer with them so that the waste collected can be separated for recycling.

Councillor Watters has liaised with Louth County Council regarding the disposal of non- recyclable waste.

In the coming weeks, the group plan to carry clean-ups at Bellurgan and then onwards to Carlingford so that entire coastline is covered. All ages are welcome.

RESERVOIR WARNING

The Ravensdale Community Alert group issued a warning last week about the dangers of swimming at the reservouir, commonly known as the waterworks, in Ravensdale. This followed reports that teenagers were swimming there.

KICKHAMS LOTTO

Cooley Kickhams Lotto Jackpot €4,400. As you know Cooley Kickhams, in line with guidelines, suspended their weekly Club Lotto Draw on 16th March 2020.

Phase 2 of the Government’s easing of lockdown restrictions is planned for 8th June, and we have therefore decided to resume our weekly lotto draws on Monday next, June 15, with a jackpot of €4,400. The Club Lotto is not only a vital source of income for the Club but it will be our only source of income. While many of our running costs have reduced, we still have ongoing expenses to pay such as our mortgage, insurance etc.

In the current circumstances and adhering to HSE, Government and GAA guidelines, for the foreseeable future we will not be making tickets available in local shops or pubs and our sellers will not be calling to houses weekly. We would like to encourage as many people as possible to sign up to play our lotto draw online. This will help us to considerably reduce the handling of paper tickets and cash by our lotto sellers and buyers.

You can enter our lotto in the following ways:

Online; playing the lotto online is not that difficult - just register once to play, choose your numbers and the number of draws and pay securely via debit/credit card. If you want to ensure you don’t miss out on any draws, just tick the “auto-renew” box and your Lotto ticket will be automatically renewed once your ticket has expired. For those who cannot purchase online there is a Buy For A Friend option so maybe a family member or neighbour with online access can assist you to buy your ticket.

Offline; for those who had a seller calling to them every week, the seller will contact you over the next couple of weeks. You must give the seller your lotto numbers and we will enter them onto our lotto database for the weekly draws. The seller will call to collect payment on a monthly basis, by arrangement, while following social distancing guidelines.

Standing order; If you wish to pay by standing order, you will need to set this up with your bank to make a monthly payment into our Ulster Bank account. Account name Cooley Kickhams - IBAN IE11ULSB98557014354692; BIC ULSB IE 2D. Once the standing order has been set up, please send your lotto numbers to Kevin Smyth (Mobile: 087-6276947; Email: kevinsmyth72@gmail.com) and you will be entered into our weekly draws once the first payment is received.

Thank you for your support during these difficult and unprecedented times. We hope it will not be too long before we can resume GAA activities, but in the meantime please stay safe.

GLENMORE AC VIRTUAL CHALLENGE

As is the case with many other events, our annual Glenmore AC 10 mile challenge is not proceeding as previously planned.

The Club has decided to create a 24-hour virtual challenge instead, whereby 2 runners set off every hour on the hour to complete the Glenmore Challenge 10 mile route. Competing runners can share their finish time into our members WhatsApp group or to any of our social media pages where we will be posting our event updates.

The event will start on Saturday June 13 at 11 am until Sunday June 14 at 11am. Time slot entry at present is restricted to Glenmore AC 2020 registered members. Individual time slots must be booked through the Glenmore Facebook page and are on a first-come-first-served basis. Confirmed entry is by means of a €15 donation to the link attached. You can also donate without running if you wish.

We have chosen to fund raise for Maria Goretti Foundation. All funds raised here will go directly to this great cause. https://www.idonate. ie/fundraiser/11385658_glenmore-ac-s-page.html
