There was good news for Carlingford last week with the announcement that the town is to receive €710,980 under the Rural Regeneration and Development Fund, with Fine Gael Senator John McGahon describing it as ‘an unprecedented opportunity’ for Carlingford.

Fine Gael Senator John McGahon welcomed the announcement of funding for the ;Living in/ Visiting Carlingford: A strategy for sustainable tourism in Carlingford’ which sets out to provide seed capital funding for strategic, large scale projects which will assist in delivering town and village regeneration and contribute to economic development and recovery.

‘ The funding provided will allow for further development of the projects to take place, such as detailed design, property acquisition or to prepare for the planning and procurement processes. The funding provided will enable

Fr. Stephen Duffy, Parish Priest in Lordship/ Ballymascanlon Parish, has issued the following update for his parishioners: Together we face the challenge of moving out of Phase 2 of lockdown and returning to normal routines while continuing to follow Government Health Authority guidelines and safety protocols to ensure we do not return to another wave of Covid-19. The advice given by the Health Authority is to be responsible and that is up to all of us.

Tuesday sees the return to our normal Mass schedule with 10.00am Mass in Ravensdale. On Wednesday, we have Mass in Our Lady of the Wayside Church at 7.30pm with the conclusion of our novena to St Oliver Plunkett and solemn blessing with the first class relic of St Oliver.

I wish to thank the Parish Pastoral Council, the Finance Committee and the Church cleaners for their support and great assistance with preparaprojects to reach a stage where the concept is developed to a high standard and the project is in a position to commence works. This will also provide a ready-made pipeline of projects which can be progressed in the future with the support of the Fund or other funding streams.’

‘ This funding represents an unprecedented opportunity for Carlingford to deliver the scale of investment necessary to allow a rural community to further develop and prosper,’ he added.

He also noted that ‘ the Carlingford application was a very high standard and huge credit goes to everyone who played a part in putting such a detailed and concise application together. It should be noted that if further funding become available in the coming months, additional projects submitted to this call may be potentially supported at a later date.

tions to make our Parish churches safe places for all of us. Our churches will receive a thorough cleaning after each celebration. Volunteer cleaners are still needed; please contact any member of the Parish Council, Finance Committee or Altar Society if you can help.

Some seats in the church have been closed off and we all know to follow the safety and government health guidelines of cough and sneeze etiquette, using the hand sanitisers (provided at each entrance to our churches) and social distancing. Families may sit together.

Holy Communion will be distributed only in the hand, there will be no sign of Peace and we are also asked to restrict movement around the church. Some people may prefer to attend a daily Mass instead of Sunday Mass for the moment. Anyone feeling unwell should stay at home.

Mass Intentions can be booked in the usual way by calling into the sacristy after Mass (if you have the intention in writing with a contact number). Intentions may also be booked by phone or email. Offerings for Mass intentions can be handed in by envelope to the Sacristy after Mass.

Baptisms are arranged as usual by calling into the sacristy after mass for a registration form and information leaflet. Please complete the registration form and I will call you to arrange the date of the baptism.

Confirmation dates in our Parish are as follows: Dulargy, 19th September; Rampark, 26th September and Bellurgan, 3rd October. All ceremonies will take place in Our Lady of the Wayside Church at 12 noon on those dates. The safety protocols and guidelines of the Government Health Authority will be strictly followed. The numbers attending have to be small and that is why there must be several ceremonies.

First Holy Communion dates are being looked at presently. However, it is recommended that these dates should be arranged when children return to school and have time to settle back.

Parish envelopes and contributions can now be returned to the church at Mass times. Clearly marked baskets are in the church. There is no collection during Mass as previously. As there will be a backlog due to no collections since March, we would appreciate return of all envelope contributions as soon as possible. Please do not leave parish envelopes or contributions in the church outside of Mass times. Thank you.

May St Oliver bless and protect you all during these times,
