Colm was a hard-working and loving family man

COLM Duffy, who has passed away, had a 40-year career in Customs and Excise, and in the early 1970s moved to Greenore.

Aged 74, he died on 15 January 2021 in Beechtree Nursing Home, Murragh, Oldtown, Co. Dublin, where he was looked after with great care and attention.

Formerly of Swinford in Co. Mayo, he lived in Bellewstow­n.

Colm worked in Customs and Excise for 40 years, initially visiting various part of the country.

In 1972, he moved to Greenore where he met Bridie. They were married in 1974 and subsequent­ly moved to Rosslare Harbour where they spent 11 years.

The family returned to the North-East in 1985. Colm took up a position in Drogheda where he spent a number of years, before moving to Dublin where he spent the final years of his career.

Outside of work, Colm had a keen love of sport. He followed his native county of Mayo to Croke Park on numerous occasions and also had a great love of golf.

He enjoyed travel and made a number of trips to the US to visit his much-loved sisters.

Colm will be remembered as being a dedicated, hard-working and loving family man. He had a wonderful sense of humour and an admirable positive attitude.

He is survived by his loving wife Bridie, daughters Aisling and Róisín, and son Brian, cherished grandchild­ren Conor, Aoibhinn, Liam and Daire, sons-in-law Stephen, Anthony and Frankie, sisters Mary, Bridie, Fran, Margaret and Patricia, brother Paddy, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, extended family, relatives and friends.

He will be sadly missed by his loving family and friends.

The funeral took place in St. Teresa’s Church, Bellewstow­n on Monday 18 January at 11am. Burial afterwards was at Our Lady Star of the Sea Graveyard, Boher, Greenore.

Fr John Conlan celebrated a lovely Mass, while Peter and Zita provided wonderful music.
