THE 18-hole singles stableford competition sponsored by Fairways SuperValu and held the weekend before last was won by Malcolm Drake, playing off a 19 handicap, with an impressive score of 47 points.

With a display of solidly consistent golf, Malcom notched up five three-pointers on the front nine, including pars at the par four second and third holes, a bogey on the index one fourth and further pars at the par five seventh and par three ninth.

That saw him turn on 23 points, and he scored even better on the back nine, racking up three-pointers at the 11th, 12th and 13th holes before birdieing the par four 14th for four points and adding another three points with a par three on the 17th.

He eventually finished the back nine on 24 points, which gave him that overall total of 47, and he also managed to complete the 18 holes without carding a double bogey.

The runner-up was Barry Cunningham (8) with 44 points. Barry started with birdies at the par four first and second holes and added another at the par five sixth hole which helped boost his score on the front nine to 22 points.

He started the back nine with a spectacular eagle three on the par five 10th hole for four points. Another four-pointer followed with a birdie four at the 12th and a run of pars from the 14th to the 17th holes helped him notch up 22 points on the closing nine.
