Special year for both Saint Oliver Church and primary school

IT is a special year for Saint Oliver Plunkett School, which was acknowledg­ed as pupils were confirmed during the week.

It marks the 125th anniversar­y of the opening of the school on Sandy Lane. Coincident­ally, Saint Oliver Plunkett Church is 100 years old this year. A weekend of celebratio­n is planned to take place that will include a festival of Flowers in the church, culminatin­g with a Mass of Thanksgivi­ng celebrated by Archbishop Eamon Martin on August 31 next.

During the Confirmati­on ceremony, the school’s first enrolment book with the names of the first pupils was presented.

The Centenary of the church was also acknowledg­ed.
