THE FORGOTTEN FALLEN
By James Langton - published by Kilmainham Tales Teo
This is the first part in a trilogy on the dead of the Irish Civil War and deals with the 800 or so Free State forces who were killed in the line of duty. The book is illustrated with contemporary and modern photographs of the last resting places of many of the men included. There is also information on soldiers who died in other circumstances, such as by accident, natural causes or execution.
Private James Caffrey is listed as having been killed in an ambush in Fermoy in January 1923. Having joined the Free State Army the previous June, he was twenty-four years of age and resided in Dublin. He was buried in Glasnevin Cemetery.
