By Eunan O’Halpin and Daithí Ó Corráin - published by Yale University Press

-

The authors identify and organise chronologically the 2,850 men, women and children known to have died in Ireland during the turbulent years of 1916-21. Details of how each person are said to have met their death are also included.

For example James Lawlor from Inchicore, Dublin worked for the Great Southern & Western Railway and had been based in Lismore for about a year. Aged 35 and an engine driver, he was shot in December 1920 after apparently failing to halt when challenged three times by a Private C. Redman on Main Street, Lismore. He was buried locally in New Cemetery.
