Mick Flannery and Carraig children go online for Marymount

-

The children of Scoil an Athar Tadhg in Carraig na bhFear have taken their fundraising efforts for Marymount Hospice online. For the past nine years the school has recorded and sold a CD, with all proceeds going to a chosen charity. Unfortunately, because of Covid restrictions, CD number 10 has yet to be launched.

Speaking to The Avondhu this week, teacher Joe Hanafin explained how their CD in aid of Marymount was recorded on back Wednesday, 11th March, just prior to when the Covid lockdown measures were enforced.

“Little were we to know how our world would change in a matter of days. We had invited Ms. Sinéad Flanagan (current International Rose of Tralee) to launch the CD.”

Joe stated that due to the enforced changes they have had to look at an alternative to help raise funds.

“The launch has had to be postponed until a later date because each year, most of our sales have been made having a presence in supermarkets. Unfortunately, that is not possible this year.”

However, organisers have decided, with the consent of guest artist Mick Flannery, to fundraise online. Mr. Dave Lucey (teacher) has compiled a beautiful video of Mick singing his song ‘How High’ with the older children. This video has been uploaded to an iDonate page.

Mr. Hanafin was effusive in his praise for the work of Mr. Lucey and the fantastic video he p roduced with the consent of guest singer, Mick

Flannery.

Míle buíochas are also extended to the school staff and congratulations to Susanna Ring whose art work decorates the online page. Congratulations also to Maria Lynch on her art work, who along with Susanna, has the honour of it featuring on the CD cover. Thanks also to the musicians that feature on the recording, all giving voluntary of their time and talent.

Marymount Hospice held their annual coffee morning fundraiser, together with Bewley’s, on September 24th, however funds have been greatly affected because of social distancing recommendations. Therefore, Mr Hanafin is encouraging people to link into the school website or twitter account and follow the link to donate.
