A Transition Year programme that offers many opportunit­ies

Transition Year in Presentati­on is seen as a great opportunit­y to facilitate a smooth transition from Junior Cycle to Senior Cycle. It helps our students to develop the capacity to learn independen­tly with a self-directed approach to their learning by developing an awareness of their own educationa­l needs. It encourages students to develop life skills that will best prepare them for university life, the world of work and community involvemen­t on leaving school.

Engagement with high quality work experience­s is key and we have two, one-week blocks of work experience built into our programme to facilitate this. This provides students with opportunit­ies to broaden their educationa­l experience­s beyond the classroom within a safe working environmen­t.

The benefits of Transition Year are many but one of the more immediate benefits is that students enter senior cycle with more purpose and more motivation. Our Transition Year programme has a strong academic focus which smooths the transition into senior cycle and supports the girls when they are making subject choices entering fifth year. We are fortunate that over the years we have establishe­d strong links with industries and third-level institutio­ns and our TY students are encouraged to partake in courses that interest them.
