Missed chances cost U15s

-

U15 Last Saturday saw us hosting Youghal in Sheila Flynn Park. With the pitch in fantastic condition and the sun shining, both teams had no excuses.

Kilworth started the better and in the opening quarter should have opened the scoring with 3 or 4 good chances. Youghal were looking to break fast and were always looking to play a ball over the top or behind our defence with their fast strikers. But the home defence coped well with anything they threw at them.

On the 22nd minute, Kilworth got on the score sheet, when, as a corner was cleared, the ball fell to Olan who put a ball to the back post where Aodhan Hickey headed to the back of the net. Kilworth kept creating the better chances up to the break but failed to take these.

The second half and Kilworth again started the better and had chances but couldn’t find the net. 16 minutes into the second half and Celtic got their just rewards when Denzel bravely got his head to the ball to head home, before the outrushing Youghal ‘keeper. Kilworth led 2-0.

5 minutes later Youghal had pulled a goal back when a corner when straight to the top corner of the net - 2-1. Kilworth now with a slender lead were still defending well but all the missed chances came back to haunt them when a ball over our defence saw the Youghal striker half volley to the top corner to level the game with a great strike.

So our third game and our third draw.

Squad: O Leddy, G Carey, A Hickey, S Moriarty, R Gill, E Geary, O McCarty, K Vaitkunas, L Og Hegarty, D Unurhoro, E Joyce, A Sisk, C O’Regan, P Murphy, R Condon, M Coffey.

SENIORS Casement Celtic 3 Kilworth Celtic 2

On Saturday afternoon we travelled to Casement Park on the Carrigrohane Road for a 3pm kick-off against Casement Celtic.

The first chance of the game came to Kilworth from a corner, but Casement managed to clear the danger. Casement got a corner themselves soon after but rattled the crossbar. A long throw from Jaime Wheeler found Eoin Condon who turned and shot, but the ball flew just over the crossbar.

Kilworth were really putting the pressure on Casement now with Seon and Ed causing big problems for the Casement defence. Another of several chances created by Kilworth saw Ed put through on goal, but the Casement ‘keeper was equal to his shot.

Kilworth’s relentless pressure was rewarded when Ryan Jordan won the ball in midfield and passed to his brother Dean, who moved to create the space to give himself every chance and his powerful strike shot low into the bottom left hand corner of the Casement net. 1-0 Kilworth.

Kilworth were moving the ball well and winning the battles in defence, but just before half-time Casement equalised - 1-1.

A lively start to the second half saw a few chances for both sides, but Casement took one of these and went into a 2-1 lead.

Kilworth kept looking for that weakness in the Casement defence. Alan and Seon were causing havoc in the home team’s defence and their work paid off when a penalty was awarded to Kilworth for handball. Up stepped Jason McCarthy who coolly put the ‘keeper the wrong way, with a well placed shot into the bottom right hand corner. 2-2 with 15 minutes remaining.

End to end stuff now as both ‘keepers were kept busy, but it was Casement who got their third. 3-2 with five minutes plus injury time remaining.

Casement nearly got a fourth only for a fine save from Tucky, diving low to his left after the Casement striker found himself one on one with our number one. Kilworth drove forward in search of the equaliser. A free kick from Jason McCarthy into the box saw Dave Twomey’s shot hit the post in what proved to be our final chance in this highly entertaining game.
