Double heartache for the St Fanahans girls

-

U16 CAMOGIE

Ballygiblin was Saturday’s venue for the U16 county semi-final against Castlelyons. Both sides played their part in a great spectacle, with Castlelyons coming out on top in extra-time. A more in depth report will be included in next week’s notes.

Well done to Castlelyons and good luck in the final.

U12 CAMOGIE

Kilworth were the visitors for Saturday’s North Cork U12 Camogie final. Despite fine performances by all the girls on the St Fanahan’s squad, on the day Kilworth proved too strong. Kilworth were fast out of the blocks, scoring a goal and two points before St Fanahan’s registered their first score, a point kicked over the bar by Eimear. In the second half Kilworth withstood some intense pressure, with a number of crucial saves by the goalkeeper maintaining their lead, to run out deserving winners. Eve and Keelin were the other scorers for St Fanahans.

Full time: St Fanahans 0-3 to Kilworth 1-7. Congratulations to Kilworth on a fine team performance.

Huge credit must go to everyone associated with Ballygiblin GAA, especially Eddie Barry and his team, for the immaculate condition of the pitch and grounds for Saturday’s matches.

U13 CAMOGIE

Kilworth were also the opponents for last week’s North Cork U13 league match. A big squad travelled to Kilworth and all the girls gave a good account of themselves. A strong start by the St Fanahan’s girls was rewarded on the scoreboard, with goals by Maeve and Keelin opening a good half time lead. Kilworth rallied in the second half, but an impressive defensive display by St Fanahan’s limited their scoring opportunities. Full time: St Fanahans 2-5 to Kilworth 0-0.

CAMOGIE COUNTY FINAL FOR THE U14s

Preparations for this weekend’s county final against Barryroe were well under way, prior to the suspension of action for three weeks, at least. The girls are training well, and looking forward to the challenge ahead.

Last week the U14 camogie squad and the team trainers, were presented with personalised water bottles. The bottles, in the red and black club colours, were kindly sponsored by Janet and Niall Power. Many thanks to Janet and Niall for their generosity.

FUNCHEON GAELS LADIES FOOTBALL

Last Sunday evening, our junior footballers (Funcheon Gaels) travelled to play Mallow. In dreadful conditions, Funcheon Gaels started off well by putting two goals in the back of the net, along with some well pointed frees from Tara O’G. Further goals from Niamh W and Tara O’G, along with good defensive play meant Funcheon Gaels won on a scoreline of 5-6 to 1-13.
