Valuable experience

-

The U16 squad travelled to Ballinascarthy last Sunday evening for a county semi-final showdown against the local Ballinscarthy panel. Blustery conditions made for challenging playing conditions and the oppositions obvious hunger for a home win added to the uphill battle on the day. Cliona Dunning got the scoreboard moving picking off the first point of the game, with Ballinscarthy adding point for point until the second quarter, taking the lead 0-3 to 0-2. Once they had the lead they held onto it with our ladies holding within two points by halftime under intense pressure.

The second half saw Ballinscarthy drive the game on and they continued taking their points, being denied goal opportunities until the last quarter when they dealt the hammer blow and took the win 1-13 to 0-4.

Best of luck to Ballinascarthy in the county final, as our girls take a break after an eventful but enjoyable season. Well done to all the U14 girls who stepped up to the U16 team this year and earned themselves some very valuable playing experience and undoubtedly contributed to the teams successes this year.

A huge thank you to the management crew Teresa Leahy, Mervyn Draper, James Spillane, Pat Fitzgerald and Deirdre Twomey for their time, patience and efforts and for surprising the girls with fabulous personalised souvenir jackets for their county semi-final trip.

Team: A. Twomey, D Clancy, S Clancy, E Dillon, A Dowling, C Draper, L Barry, T Leahy, S Fitzgerald, A Mulkerrins, F Sheehan, A Leahy, H Norman, C Dunning, E Twomey. Subs: E Twomey, K O’Donoghue, S Hannon, D Hayes.

U14s

Commiserations to the U14 ladies who bowed out of the championship in their quarter final against

Na Piarsaigh last Friday week. Na Piarsaigh had the physically stronger side from the throw-in but our ladies were first on the scoreboard with a goal in the opening minutes. Na Piarsaigh followed suit finding the back of the net three times in the opening quarter. The girls managed to regain control of Na Piarsaigh’s scoring streak coming back from a nine point deficit and turned the game on its head in the last quarter creating an incredible resurrection seldom seen at this tender age.

Despite their Trojan efforts they were narrowly defeated by a single point at the final whistle and were understandably heartbroken, but they should take great pride in the work rate they put in when the pressure was on as this is the sign of true warriors and will stand to them in the years ahead.

Team: E Twomey, S Hannon, E Dillon, K Hickey, G Dineen, S Fitzgerald, M O’Connor, K O’Donoghue, L Kenneally, M Mulcahy, A Mulkerrins, S Twomey, C Fitzgerald, F Sheehan, E Barry.

IMOKILLY 13s

Well done to Sophia Fitzgerald and Ally Mulkerrins who lined out with Imokilly U13s in their recent match against Muskerry. The skills these girls bring to the panel helped Imokilly secure a draw against a strong Muskerry team, with a fulltime score of 1-10 a piece.

CLUB SKORTS

A big thank you to Orna Neville for organising and delivering a new skort order for our players. A lot of work and time goes into compiling this order and we thank everyone for their assistance and patience and hope the girls get many years of playing pleasure from our bespoke skorts.

COVID RESTRICTIONS

The Camogie Association has presently suspended all camogie club games on foot of the recent Government directive that we move to level three restrictions to try to prevent further escalation of Covid19 infection numbers. We urge our members and supporters to continue to follow the guidelines, practice social distancing and play your part in getting this current worrying trend back under control. Stay safe and stay well.

Our thanks as always to our main sponsor Billy Neville Agrisales for their continued support.
