Junior Bs battle Ballyhea

-

On Saturday evening our junior hurlers took to Ballyhooly pitch vs Ballyhea for the McAuliffe Hurleys JB(2)HC final. Ballyhea were first to succeed getting their name on the scoreboard in the 3rd minute. Not to be outdone, Kilworth scored the next 4 consecutive points from Leo Coffey, James Moakley and Mikey Wade. A good first quarter for Kilworth, with strong defending from the backs, saw us up 3 points ahead at the water break. This was quickly levelled by the opposition. It was then tit for tat between the sides. A point from Joey Cahill before the half-time whistle blew reduced Ballyhea’s lead to a onepoint, 0-7 to 0-6.

The start of the second half was a repeat of the first half, seeing both teams exchange scores, one of which included a superb sideline cut from captain Shane O’Brien. Ballyhea found the back of the Kilworth net 8 minutes into the second half, following a great save from goalkeeper Killian Heggtveit, who was unlucky to see his clearance deflected into the net. Heading into the last quarter, Kilworth were down 5 points, a well needed goal from corner forward Leo Coffey lessened the margin to 2 points. Unfortunately, this was as close as we would get to Ballyhea nearing the end of the match.

Hard luck to the players and management on a disappointing end to a great season. As a club, we are very proud of the players and all involved. We look forward to a new season. A special thank you to all our sponsors and supporters.

FIRST ROUND WIN FOR U21s Kilara Óg 2-18 Liscarroll/Churchtown Gaels 0-14

Kilara Óg got a tonic of a start with a goal from Michael Sheehan two minutes in. The whole first half was nip and tuck between both sides. The concession of frees kept the opposition in the game. The half-time score was 1-9 to 0-10, Kilara Óg leading by 2 at the short whistle. On the resumption, a similar pattern from the opening half emerged with both teams exchanging points. At the water break in the second half there was still only three points separating the sides with Kilara Óg holding sway. Following this break Kilara Óg completely took over and dominated the remainder of the match. A great goal from Leo Coffey after this break opened a gap of six. Four more points were added by Kilara Óg before the finish, to leave us close out the game with a ten-point margin. This was an encouraging performance by a young Kilara team, especially the second half.
