Fermoy Ladies Club games suspended due to Covid-19

-

In line with the Government recommendations, all LGFA club games at all levels are suspended with immediate effect until further notice. This is for the health and safety of all of our club members. We hope you all stay safe and well and we look forward to seeing you all back on the pitch once it is safe to do so.

JUNIOR

We travelled to Trabeg last Sunday to play our final league game v Nemo Rangers. Weather conditions were terrible but we fought hard against a strong Nemo team. We trailed by two points at half-time. Unfortunately we were playing into a strong wind in the second half and though we battled well, Nemo won out comfortably in the end. This brings a close to what was a very unusual season for our junior team. Still, it was great to be able to field a second ladies team for the club. As ever, the attitude, work rate and effort by all involved was excellent.

SENIOR

Fermoy seniors played St Vals last Sunday in senior league. Fermoy got off to great start and even though playing against a strong wind, we dominated the first half with goals from Amy Mansell, Saoirse Moore and Isobel Pyne. Fermoy were strong throughout the field and great movement was shown up front with Caitlin Duffy making some great runs and Lorna Twomey causing Val’s trouble in full forward. We went into the break 3-4 to 0-4 ahead.

The second half was a different story and St Vals came back into the match and Fermoy conceded some soft goals, however our backline held tough with Ruby Coffey and Mary O’Sullivan showing for kickouts and distributing the ball well to our wingbacks of Annalise and Sinead and this settled us down. Fermoy scored a crucial second half goal which ultimately proved the difference along with the energetic Amanda O’Sullivan in midfield. Vals kept attacking to the last minute and reduced the lead to two points and this is where the experience of Aoife O’Sullivan showed and every ball was battled for and Fermoy held out for a 4-8 to 4-6 win.

Fermoy team: Emer Feerick, Ruby Coffey, Mary O’Sullivan, Eve Buckley, Annalise Kouwenberg, Aoife O’Sullivan, Sinead O’Sullivan, Isobel Pyne, Saoirse Moore, Ashling Daly, Caitlin Duffy, Teresa Murphy, Aoibhe Carey, Lorna Twomey, Amy Mansell. Subs used: Amanda O’Sullivan, Clodagh O’Brien.

With the restrictions this may well be our last game of the season and it was great to come away with a win that all the girls much deserved. Numbers all year at training have been great and this is a great bunch of ladies who will be harder and harder to beat in coming years.

WELL DONE

Fermoy ladies would like to say a huge well done to Amanda O’Sullivan who has made the Cork minor panel, a great achievement and everyone in the club is very proud. Well done Amanda.
