A and B teams in Bolger Cup action

-

On Sunday, October 4 round 2 of the Tony Bolger Cup took place with both Valley Rangers A and B teams in action.

Valley Rangers A team travelled to take on Clashmore. Conditions were tough for both teams with a very strong wind gusting. It was an even game for the first 30 mins but in the 31st minute a brilliant pass by Stephen Carr who finds John Cashman who rounded the Clashmore goalkeeper who takes him down for a penalty. Unfortunately Ted Noonan put it just past the post and a let off for Clashmore.

4 minutes later Clashmore find the back of the Valley Rangers goal to take the lead. They hold onto the lead and go in at half time 1-0 up. Valley Rangers have the very strong wind with them in the second half.

And from the start of the half a shot by Kevin Barry is saved very well by the Clashmore keeper. In the 52nd minute a brilliant ball by Stephen Carr finds Eddie Kenneally who coolly slots the ball into the back of the net to make it 1-1.

A minute later Valley Rangers go 2-1 up a thunderous shot from 40 yards out by John Cashman finds the back of the Clashmore net. A decisive decision comes in the 70th minute when the referee awards Clashmore a penalty and they slot the ball home to make it 2-2. Both teams are looking to find the winner but the game ends up in a draw 2-2.

Valley Rangers B team welcomed Brideview A team to Conna. This was always going to be a tough game for Valley Rangers and after 9 minutes they found themselves 3-0 down but in the 17th minute Ray McCurtain finds the back of the Brideview net with a super shot. A minute later Brideview score a 4th goal and just before half time they make it 5-1. Half time score 5-1.

Valley Rangers never let their heads drop and played lovely football especially in the 2nd half and had a nice few opportunities to get a few goals but it wasn’t to be and Brideview won the game 5-1.

The final scoreline flattered Brideview and Valley Rangers can take plenty of heart especially with the second half performance.
