Pavel Sisovosky returns a superb 44 points for a well-earned win

-

Yet again it was a competition of two distinct halves last weekend with a significant change in weather between Saturday and Sunday.

The former dawned reasonably clear and dry with a moderate northerly breeze blowing which stiffened somewhat and veered to the west as the day went on. The latter was a different kettle of fish with the effects of Storm Alex being felt to their full effect. The wind blew strongly from the west all day and as the afternoon moved towards night the predicted rain arrived. Unfortunately, the results for the September Medal, kindly sponsored by Gearoid Crowley Electrical Services are not available in time for this week’s notes.

In the midweek singles Pavel Sisovosky (19) capitalised on a summer of consistent golf when he produced a fabulous 44 points to win the competition played on the last day of September in style. Arlen Aherne (12) took second place on 42 with Adam Forde (12) third a further 2 points back. Dean O’Riordan (Scr) was just out of the prizes when he returned a magnificent round of a gross 67 shots which included no less than 6 birdies and two 5s on his card. His remaining holes were completed in 3 or 4 shots. Last week I reported on the magnificent eagle that Dean’s brother Roy scored on the 4th and I can now inform our readers that it was even more impressive as he was on in two. This is a remarkable feat as the 4th is the longest par 5 on the course and is mostly uphill.

SENIORS

Our seniors outing on Thursday last was blessed with the best of the weather on a day that saw some heavy showers fall in the morning. Fifty-four contenders for glory togged out with Ml Caples, Mark Troy, Pat Manley and Dom Smyth taking a comfortable win when their 4 under par gross converted into a nett 22 exactly. This was 1.8 shots clear of John O’Grady, Paul Hickey, John Caffrey and Ml J Murphy. Ray Ennis, Pat Murphy, Ml Hickey and Liam Fenton came third a further half shot in arrears.

COVID 19 PRECAUTIONS

As I pen this article the situation in regard to the level of restrictions under which we will be living as you read it is unclear but the captain and all our committee urge our members to comply absolutely with all the precautions that are in place. The wearing of facial coverings when moving around the clubhouse is compulsory and there is a one-way system in place for everyone’s safety. Please wash your hands before entering the bar area and maintain social distancing at all times. Golf has been in the privileged position in that we were allowed to return in the early stages of re-opening and are permitted to play competitively unlike many other sports. It is the responsibility of all of us to ensure that we continue to act responsibly to allow this situation continue.
