Victory for Ballyporeen junior Bs

-

Our junior B side made their championship debut last Sunday morning against Kilsheelan in a windy Ardfinnan. The team had trained well and had some very useful challenge matches in recent weeks under the watchful eyes of selectors Johnny O’Gorman, James Hackett and Harry O’Brien.

Bally were slow to find their feet as Kilsheelan raced into a three point lead after 12 minutes. Anthony Crotty scored two frees which seemed to settle us down. We were playing against a very strong breeze so it was important to stay in touch. This Bally did, with points from Riain Hennessy and Glen Walsh as Kilsheelan lead by three points coming up to half-time. Just on the stroke of half-time, a good move involving Aaron Macken, Dillon O’Gorman and Glen Walsh saw Walsh set up Riain Hennessy who finished brilliantly to the net. The sides were now level at half-time, 1-4 to 0-7.

The second half saw Bally improve greatly and with the aid of the wind at their backs they were well on top. Anthony Crotty helped himself to another four points, three from frees and one delightful one on the run. Danny English, who played well throughout, was rewarded for his play as he finished a good move to the net. Glen Walsh and Josh Macken also added points to give Bally a comfortable win in the end on a scoreline of 2-10 to 0-9.

This was a good start to the championship from Bally, but they know there will be tougher games ahead, so with a bit more training and hard work they can have a big say in this championship/
