The Avondhu

Hail the U12 history makers!

-

Our U12 camogie panel made history on Friday last by bringing home the first title to the club since we reformed camogie in 2017, winning the Avondhu U12 league final.

From the whistle we launched attack after attack but we could not breach the resolute Charleville defence. On a rare foray they swept down the field to score a goal. The girls shrugged off the disappointment and very quickly cancelled it out with a stunning goal of their own. The pattern of the game was soon set - we would threaten to pull away but Charleville would keep in touch with breakaway scores. As the intensity levels went up our girls were not found wanting and, after a ding-dong battle, we got the result we craved. Our captain for the day Rachel O’Flynn stepped forward to accept the cup on behalf of a very excited bunch of girls. After lots of photos with players and families, we headed back to Fermoy in a convoy for a ‘tour’ of Fermoy.

The panel of the day was: Cáit O’Flynn, Sophie O’Grady, Annie O’Connell, Ciara Howard, Emma Louise Wall, Grainne Creed, Rachel O’Flynn, Hannah Noonan, Olivia Murphy, Áine McGrath, Jane Sheridan, Orla O’Geran, Louise McConville, Victoria Dunlea, Roisin Daly, Bridget Mahon, Ayvah Kenneally and Maeve Kenny.

Well done girls, all your hard work certainly paid off. Thanks to the inspiring group of mentors, ably led by Lisa Crowley Wall and assisted by Danny O’Connell, Liam Howard, Bosco Creed and especially Anna Howard. Our Covid-19 officers who kept us all safe throughout the season so far are Noreen McConville, Ann O’Flynn and Jacqueline Creed.
