Great progress made through the year

-

So the curtain draws on our hurling year. A year that back in March few of us could see proceeding. Great credit due to Rebel Óg, all the referees and opponents, as well as our own coaches and Covid officers and parents for adapting to the new norm. On the training field the boys applied themselves really well and in competition we won five of our seven hurling matches. So great progress has been made during the course of the year. Mark and the other coaches have put in a huge effort and our performances were testament to their work and the attitude of this group of players. Congratulations to Ballygiblin, who were our victors in both matches we lost, including the North Cork final last Sunday. But the black and amber will relish the challenge of 2021 again.

Our hurling panel for the year included: James Mullery (captain), Ryan Bracken, Rory Bratchford, Jack Butterworth, Donnacha Creed, Max Clancy, Ronan Hayden, Adam Keohane, Tiernan Morrison, Cormac Murphy, Cian O’Callaghan, Ruairc O’Donovan, Killian O’Mahony, Cian O’Sullivan, Ben Richards, Charlie Clancy, Daniel Cusack, Lewis Doyle, Fionn Hayes, David Mullery, Lucas Murray, Tadhg O’Mara, Peter Roche, Johndy Gayer, Louis Carroll.

Well done boys. You wore the jersey with pride all year.

We played our final game of the Rebel Óg league on Sunday morning v Kilara Óg in very blustery conditions in Ballyhooly. This was a Plate final. Both sides are very evenly matched but as the saying goes “Goals win matches and Kilara managed to score the goals. This, combined with a few injuries, deprived our boys of any sustained pressure on the Kilara backs. We want to congratulate our opponents and we also wish a speedy recovery to James (broken finger) and to Ruairc who had to withdraw during the game.

Overall, the year has been very productive. The majority of our players were able to continue playing football and hurling throughout the Covid restrictions. Those who could not commit, maintained contact with us and, hopefully, will be back with us in 2021. We also have one or two new players who have recently joined and the nurturing of a full panel has always been a priority. We also welcomed Padraic Hayden to the group of coaches. Our thanks to the players, parents, our Covid supervisors Ailish and Marie and to all the coaches who work with the group. Coaches will be in touch with parents regarding a suitable socially distanced end of season get together and with any other details about football and hurling.
