Rathcormac Community Council monthly report

-

The Rathcormac Community Council meeting for February 2021 took place fully on Zoom on Monday, 15th February at 8pm. Bob Seward, chairperson and host, welcomed all to the meeting and proceeded with a busy agenda.

Conor Gurrin read the minutes of the January meeting and these were agreed and signed.

Jonathon then gave the financial report which showed our heads still above water despite the difficulties the Covid has caused for our fundraising events. However, our funds are being depleted all the time now as Covid has scuppered most of our fundraising. As a result we will need to put on the begging cap soon to rectify this.

Running Track: Bob is to meet the contractor to finalise details about this as that plan needs to be finalised soon.

E.S.B.: Jonathon reported that the E.S.B. are to visit the site shortly to agree about lighting, etc. there.

The School: Recently the fence of the school has been breached between it and the field (Sports Hub). This is serious as nobody is allowed on school grounds during closed periods. Some youths were seen playing basketball there. We know everybody is under pressure now, but this has to stop forthwith.

Cork Co Council Development Plan: This is now at draft level. Rathcormac features prominently in this updating of the plan. Our Towards 2030 Plan is featured as well as our potential for tourism with walks etc. The population is now over 1,500. Twenty four percent of the houses in the bill age (town really) are rented.

Sustainable Energy Community: Eamon and Geraldine were recently involved in a webinar recently on this subject. It has potential to be very interesting and we will keep in touch with it.

Cork Co Council: The development of the southern end of the Village is to proceed shortly with CCC granting in excess of €200,000 for this work over the next while. We thank Brendan O’Gorman and all the councillors for all this proposed development.

Bicycle Shelter: Conor needs a hand to put this up, probably near the Hall.

Playground: Gerry continues to lock the playground each night and Teresa and Ger Lane open it each day. We thank them for their work there. Signs we put up there to limit the use of the playground to under 12s were pulled down. Recently some adults were seen drinking there!!! What will Covid throw up next??

Community Park (The Field): Bob reported that due to Covid and some bad weather the contractors are continuing to be held up. The work needed to finish the current job is about two weeks. Hopefully this will soon be complete. Bob continues to work on the Sports Capital Grant for the next phase of development.

Covid: People are asked to be aware if any elderly neighbours need help in any way with shopping or any other chores. Observe social distancing at all times however and wear a mask.

Allotments: Eamon Power reported that the list there is now full and we have put a waiting list in place. Our thanks to Eamon for all the work there with his tractor and rotavator, which has tidied up the whole area.

Shanowen: The planning there is being monitored. The builder is debating whether a creche is needed. A recent survey has shown that 32% of the population in Rathcormac is under the age of 20.

CONDOLENCES

These were recorded to recently bereaved families in the district.
