A junior B game thirty years ago

Galbally 2-6 Galtee Gaels 1-8

Played on home ground on 16th May, 1991 Galtee Gaels needed a win to keep interest alive in the south junior B league. The opening round of the intermediate football championship was fast approaching and this game would siphon players from the junior ranks. It was a case of “make hay while the sun shines.”

Galtee Gaels replied to a Denis Ryan goal with points from Breedy, Caddigan and Boland. Cronin added to Ryan’s goal with two points and turning over on 1-2 to 0-3. Michael Fraher had no sooner added Galtee Gaels fourth point than Galbally reeled off an unanswered 1-2. Boland (2) and a point response by Taylor set the scoreboard at 2-6 to 0-6.

With ten minutes left Jim Hickey red carded a Galbally player and suddenly Galtee Gaels came to life. O’Callaghan and Moloney pointed and Boland sent Dawson the wrong way with his penalty shot. But that was as good as it got.

SYMPATHY

Galtee Gaels GAA Cclub extends it sympathy and condolences to the O’Sullivan family, Kilbehenny on the death last week of their mother Margaret Peggy O’Sullivan. Peggy maintained a keen interest in club events. Her sons wore the Galtee Gaels colours over the years playing a valuable role in gaining south and county honours at many grades. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a h-anam.
