A STRANGE YEAR
2020 was a strange year for Glenville GAA, no more than it was for anyone else. Adapting to rapidly changing situations was the name of the game when it came to keeping the show on the road. Despite all the challenges, a lot of progress was made in several areas, with the immediate future now presenting some exciting possibilities for the club.
A big thank you to our main sponsors Environmental Services Ireland and Moynihan’s Pharmacy. Thank you also to all our pitch-side sponsors and Ryan’s SuperValu, Glanmire who recently donated to the club.
Construction is already up and running for our new astroturf pitch, additional car park, viewing area and reconfiguration of the existing main pitch with ball-stops behind the two goals. This will be a fantastic addition to the community, Glenville NS, Watergrasshill Hurling Club, Watergrasshill Ladies’ Football and Camogie Club and the general public.
A lot of work and planning has gone into this and we are confident of delivering a top-class facility and to have this project complete by March 2021, once restrictions are lifted. This phase of development comes with a cost of approximately €265,000. We have received funding from the county council and Tomar Trust. Many members of the community have been extremely generous in making donations to help get the project off the ground.
However, we still have a shortfall of €150,000 to pay off at a time when Covid-19 has impacted on our fundraising ventures for 2020.
We sincerely thank all who have already contributed in any way towards this development so far. If anyone wants to donate to our ongoing fundraising drive for our astro develo Lotto jackpot now at €16,800
Our revamped lotto continues to grow, due in the main to the hardworking lotto committee and the support of the community. Our lotto is our main source of income within the club and we are indebted to all who support this.
You can purchase weekly tickets locally in Barry’s Shop or Glenville Co-op. Alternatively you can play online through the Smart Lotto facility. Our lotto sponsor is Cronin’s Garage, Kildinan.
PIETA HOUSE FUNDRAISER
Driven by our intermediate football team and management we managed to raise well over €7,300 for Pieta House. It was a fantastic weekend’s work all round and everyone who shaved or dyed their hair deserved a big bualadh bos!
