WASTE OPERATOR PULLS OUT OF MITCHELSTOWN

- NIALL O’CONNOR

There is some disquiet at news that a refuse collection service is to pull out of Mitchelstown.

A householder and user of the service, who did not wish to be named, said that she was “shocked and concerned” that Mr Binman were ceasing operations in the town.

Householders of the service received a letter, dated February 15th, from the company stating that Country Clean would be taking over the accounts. She said she also had concerns around the sharing of her data between two companies.

TheAvondhu reached out to Mr Binman this week, but they did not respond to phone calls or an e-mail request for comment.

In the letter sent to customers, it was explained that the company were undergoing restructuring.

“We must now implement some essential logistical changes in our business to protect it going forward.

“We have experienced increased costs outside of our control on insurance, landfill recyclables processing and other items throughout the last few years, all of which we have managed to absorb but unfortunately this is not sustainable in the current climate.

“As a consequence we have to suspend collections in your area of the medium term due to the logistics involved,” the letter read.

The Limerick city based company said that local company, Country Clean would take over on March 1, 2021.

The company informed householders that any monies paid to Mr Binman for future service, will be on the new account and that no one would be out of pocket.

However, the householder expressed concern to The-Avondhu that there was likely to be an increase in costs as a result of any such transfer.

The company went onto say that if a householder did not wish to transfer to Country Clean, that they could seek a refund by February 25.
