Speeding a concern for residents following N72 closure
The closure of the Lismore to Tallow road to facilitate resurfacing works has seen a knock-on effect with speeding issues arising on roads used for a diversion.
A three week closure of a section of the N72 has seen diversions put in place for the duration of the works, however, Waterford City and County Council has since been alerted to issues with speeding on the Glencairn Road.
Cllr Damien Geoghegan has appealed to the public to slow down and he highlighted the danger posed to a number of children who regularly walk the road.
The Ballyanchor Road was highlighted as another area that was experiencing issues with speeding, with members of the public pointing to how narrow the road is.
Members of the public appealed to Cllr Geoghegan requesting for ‘ Slow Down’ signs to be put in place on the Glencairn and Ballyanchor roads to increase safety in the area.
One individual requested that speed ramps be put in place on the approach to the Blackwater Community School on the Ballyanchor Road.
“It’s a windy road at the best of times but with weather conditions and extra traffic, it’s very dangerous; (There are) a lot of people with animals on that road, including horses, so drivers need to show some respect,” she said.
Cllr Geoghegan responded to this, stating that he would put in a request and ask that the situation there be examined by the Roads Department of the council
LOCAL LINK DISRUPTIONS
Waterford Local Link have also informed the public of a ‘Service Disruption’ on the 363 service from Tallow to Dungarvan
“Due to road works and diversions in place, there may be a delay on this service for the duration of the road closure,” a statement read.
