Midleton, Erins Own, Cloyne and Glanmire capture county championship silverware
Despite Imokilly footballers surrendering the county SFC title to Nemo Rangers on a scoreline of 2-11 to 0-9 in the final, 1987 proved to be another very successful year for the East Cork division, with four prestigious county championship titles won by Midleton, Erins Own, Glanmire and Cloyne.
Midleton 2-12 Na Piarsaigh 0-15
After a scintillating contest, Midleton retained the county SHC title, after they defeated a valiant Na Piarsaigh side in the county final.

MUNSTER CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP
After defeating Waterford champions Ballyduff Upper in the quarter-final at Clonmult Memorial Park and Clare champions Clarecastle in the semi-final at Cusack Park, Ennis, the Magpies regained the Munster club senior championship title after a lapse of four years. They defeated Tipperary champions Cappawhite in the final at Kilmallock.
Erins Own 1-6 Mallow 0-8
In a low-scoring encounter played in torrential rain at Rathcormac, Erins Own captured the county IHC title. They defeated Mallow by the narrowest of margins in the final.

Glanmire annexed the county IFC title after they defeated Fermoy by a margin of eight points in the decider played at Rathcormac.

Defeated finalists the previous year, the Magpies second string selection brought their experience to bear by capturing the Michael ‘Boig’ Cup after they defeated Castlelyons in the divisional junior B grade football championship final at Lisgoold.

Carrigtwohill annexed the divisional junior B grade hurling championship title with a comfortable victory over Cloyne in a replayed final at Midleton (drawn game Carrigtwohill 1-11 Cloyne 2-8).
THE INTERCOUNTY SCENE Cork 0-13 Kerry 1-5
Cork regained the Munster senior football championship title after a lapse of four years after they dethroned All-Ireland champions Kerry in the replayed final in Killarney (drawn game Cork 1-10 Kerry 2-7).
In the All-Ireland semi-final they beat Galway after another replay by 0-18 to 1-4 (drawn game Cork 1-11 Galway 1-11). However, they lost the All-Ireland final to Meath by 1-14 to 0-11.

After defeating Tipperary by 0-11 to 0-7 in the semi-final, Cork and Kerry drew 0-8 apiece in the Munster minor football championship final, with the Rebels winning by the narrowest of margins in the replay. They defeated New York by 5-8 to 1-4 in the All-Ireland quarter-final, Galway by 0-10 to 0-7 in the semi-final but were beaten by Down 1-12 to 1-5 in the All-Ireland final.

Dublin were beaten 2-7 to 0-8 in the All-Ireland semi-final and the Rebels completed the double with a comprehensive victory over Warwickshire by 0-14 to 0-3 in the final.
