Ballyporeen’s Conor Sweeney wins football All-Star award

-

What a season Conor Sweeney is having, after captaining Tipperary to a historic Munster final win against Cork and claiming the man of the match award in that game to reach the All-Ireland semi-final. Conor has now rounded off the season in style as he collected his football All-Star award last weekend.

Make no mistake about it, this was a well and truly deserved award for Conor, a very quiet and modest gentleman who dedicated and sacrificed most of his life to become the footballer he is today. Conor becomes only the third Tipp man to win this award. He now joins the company of Declan Brown (Moyle Rovers) who won two awards in 1998 and 2003 and also Michael Quinlivan in 2016.

This is a great honour for Conor and his family, who I’m sure are very proud of what Conor has achieved. His parents Mike and Bernie are great supporters and followers of Conor and I’m sure they will raise a glass or two in celebration of this great win

Needless to say the Ballyporeen Football Club are on a high since news broke last Friday morning. It is indeed a very proud time for club and parish. This will provide another great boost for football in Ballyporeen and Tipp. Also it’s welcome good news story in these pandemic times.

Our juvenile club will be delighted with this award as it will encourage all juveniles to emulate their hero, Conor.

With restrictions on GAA activity Conor is taking a well-deserved break after his busy year which also included his recent marriage to Shauna Hill. Hopefully it won’t be long before we see him grace the playing fields again. Once again Conor, on behalf of Ballyporeen Football Club, our heartfelt congratulations go out to you. You’ve done us proud yet again.

The friends of Tipperary football are launching their EuroMillions lotto syndicate again this year.
