In these Covid times it’s very easy to reflect on our club, past events and matches, but it struck me lately with the passing of Pat O’Driscoll last week, what a lot of loyal servants we have lost over the years since my time with the club.

When I came to Glanworth first and was involved in coaching and selecting underage teams, we used to take a 45 seater bus to our underage matches. Always in the front seat was the late Jimmy Frazier (vice president) along with his wife Helen. Both accompanied us to Cork county senior finals when Avondhu won the hurling and Jas Cummins refereed the senior football final between UCC and Clonakilty. We took buses also to Croke Park on numerous occasions.

Other great supporters at the time were Breda Healy, Eily Simpson, Con and Mary O’Dwyer, Dan Ahern, Mary Fahy, Mary Mahon and Lydge Courtney all getting great joy from every match. Then great past players and officers like Seanie O’Brien, Jerry Coleman, Tommy Brennan, Kevin ‘Buster’ Cotter, John Carey, Sean and Jimmy Quirke, just recently ‘the Guy’ Tom O’Sullivan, the hurley repairer Attie Wilson, Mike Hanrahan, Micka Brennan, Tommy Courtney, Pad Barry – these three gave mighty tunes after victories. Great music!

Larry Flynn, Liam Kiely, my own late wife Nell who kept the first aid boxes full, other teams maybe needed it more than us! Michael John Shinnick better known in scouting who videoed numerous underage matches for me and the tapes are still around. Ballindangan’s Maurice O’Sullivan. Kevin Quinn, James Meaney, David Breeney and Mary Frewen young players taken well before their time and who we will treasure forever. Ollie Ryan PRO supreme. The ‘54 team Paddy O’Neill, Davy Pyne, Davy Barry, Gah Aherne, The Nailer, Tacky, Den Healy, Mossie O’Connell, Davy Courtney, Jim Fitzgibbon, Roger O’Donnell, Michael Coakley, Johnny O’Shea - the greatest Cork supporter in the village. Denis Broderick, Tommy and Jack Murphy, Denny Cotter, James Fouhy, Kevin Fahy, Pa Magnier, Johnny Coughlan, Charlie O’Neill, Davy Pierce, Dan Joe Ryan, Timmy Hannon, Frank O’Brien, Tom Mulcahy Ballindangan, Pad Coughlan, Jimmy Breeney, Andy and Mary Rice. Jim and Liz Kiely, many a match we travelled together including trips to Croke Park. When I started this it would frighten you to think how many have passed on. I may have left out some people and if I did, my sincere apologies.

There has been a few amendments since the AGM.
