JAHC

Clyda Rovers were very easy winners over Ballyhooly in the opening round at Killavulle­n. By the end of the first quarter, Clyda were 0-6 to 0-1 ahead and by halftime it was 0-8 to 0-3. The winners continued to dominate in the second half adding 0-10, to just 3 points from Ballyhooly.

Castletown­roche and Ballycloug­h were involved in a high scoring contest in Mallow, where Castletown’ emerged winners 3-18 to 1-19. The winners were 1-10 to 1-9 ahead at the break. Jonathan O’Callaghan and Colm O’Neill were in great form for their respective sides. In the end, Castletown’ won by seven points. Castletown­roche scorers: Jonathan O’Callaghan 1-10, Donal Relihan 1-2, Alan O’Driscoll 1-1, Michael Farrell 0-2, Michael Browne 0-2, Eugene O’Shaughness­y 0-1.

Kildorrery and Buttevant played in Ballyhea with Kildorrery winning 1-11 to 0-8. The sides were level on many occasions and the ‘Hill’ were 0-6 to 0-3 ahead at the break. By the end of the third quarter they were level, 0-6 apiece, however a goal by Eamonn Coughlan set Kildorrery on their way to victory. Kildorrery scorers: Andrew O’Brien 0-5, Eamonn Coughlan 1-0, Dave Roche 0-2, Gerry McCarthy 0-1, David O’Brien 0-1, Eamonn O’Connor 0-1, Michael Walsh 0-1.

Charlevill­e had four points to spare over Harbour Rovers in Doneraile. After 21 minutes Charlevill­e led 1-3 to 0-3, the goal scored by Robert Fenton. At the break the winners were 1-7 to 0-5 ahead. Exchanges were very close in the second half, but Charlevill­e were the better side overall and emerged winners 1-13 to 1-9.

Champions Ballygibli­n had a 1-15 to 1-9 victory over Kilshannig in Ballyhooly. Ballygibli­n, helped by a Dave Moher goal, led at half-time 1-5 to 0-6. Both sides exchanged points, with the winners ahead 1-9 to 1-7 entering the final quarter. Eamonn Nagle goaled for Kilshannig but two more points for Ballygibli­n gave them a four point win. Ballygibli­n scorers: Dave Moher 1-8, Danny Duggan 0-2, Michael Allen 0-2, Michael Feeney 0-1, Declan Power 0-1, Adrian Walsh 0-1.

Churchtown, who upgraded from B grade in 2004, had a close win over Shanballym­ore at Charlevill­e. Kieran Curtin goaled from a free and Churchtown were 1-2 to 0-4 ahead after 21 minutes. Churchtown led at the interval 3-8 to 1-7, but Shanballym­ore battled back very well. By the 54th minute the winners led 3-10 to 2-9 and emerged victorious 3-12 to 2-13.

Araglin had a good win over Ballyhooly in Ballygibli­n, 1-12 to 1-9. Araglin scorers: James Kearney 0-6, Tom Browne 1-0, Paul Hoye 0-2, Dave Browne 0-1, Seamie O’Gorman 0-1, Tom Kenneally 0-1, Pat Buckley 0-1.

Neighbours Buttevant and Liscarroll were in action in Dromina, with Buttevant victorious 1-15 to 2-9.

Kilworth had 13 points to spare over Fermoy in Ballyhooly, 3-16 to 0-12. Kilworth scorers: Brian Tobin 2-0, Tom Twomey 0-4, Paudie Lynch 0-4, Adrian Mannix 0-4, Noel Gowen 1-0, James Moakley 0-2, Aidan Kenny 0-2.

Doneraile and Mallow met in Buttevant and after a close game, Doneraile had a 4 point win - 2-10 to 2-6. Doneraile scorers: Gavin O’Keeffe 2-1, Jason O’Callaghan 0-6, Barry Sheehan 0-2, Timmy Walsh 0-1.

Castletown­roche and Araglin played a keenly contested game in Ballygibli­n. The scoring power of Jonathan O’Callaghan proved decisive as Castletown had a two point win, 0-15 to 1-10. Castletown’ scorers: Jonathan O’Callaghan 0-11, Alan O’Driscoll 0-2, Eugene O’Shaughness­y 0-1, Dave Relihan 0-1.

While Churchtown had a 2-11 to 1-13 win over Kildorrery in Doneraile. The scoreline was disputed, but the referee’s decision was confirmed.

They were level at half-time 1-6 to 0-9.

Fermoy pipped Mallow by a single point, 1-14 to 1-13 in Castletown­roche. Fermoy scorers: Conor O’Kane 0-8, Fergus Ryan 1-4, Shane Killeen 0-1, Alan O’Connor 0-1.

Kilshannig and Shanballym­ore played out a draw in Killavulle­n, 1-14 to 2-11, with Paul Burke the Shanballym­ore goalscorer.

The replay at the same venue

saw Shanballym­ore have a close win, 1-16 to 1-14. Overall the sides were level on 6 occasions, but late points by Pa Sheedy and Paul Burke gave Shanbally’ a two point win. Shanballym­ore scorers: Paul Burke 0-9, Michael O’Donovan 1-1, Pa Sheedy 0-3, Micheal Burke 0-1, Vincent Burke 0-1, Brian Barry 0-1.

Clyda Rovers had a single point win over Charlevill­e in Buttevant, 1-8 to 1-7. While Ballycloug­h defeated Liscarroll to advance to the quarter-finals.

Ballycloug­h had a four point win over Buttevant in Churchtown, 0-20 to 2-10, with late points from the O’Neill brothers sealing the win.

Three goals in the first half by Kilworth saw them advance over Doneraile at Ballyhooly, 4-19 to 2-13. At half-time it was 3-8 to 0-9. Doneraile did well on the resumption cutting the lead to four points, 3-13 to 1-12. Kilworth with 1-6 in the last 10 minutes held out for victory. Kilworth scorers: Elton Pierce 1-4, Adrian Mannix 1-3, Joseph Cahill 1-2, Brian Tobin 1-2, Noel Gowen 0-2, Thomas Twomey 0-2, Aidan Kenny 0-2, Dion Cahill 0-2.

Defending champions Ballygibli­n were defeated by Fermoy in Kilworth, 3-15 to 2-16. Ballygibli­n led at the break 1-11 to 1-10. Fermoy scorers: Fergal Ryan 1-4, Conor O’Kane 0-6, Mark Kenny 1-1, James Aherne 1-1, Alan O’Connor 0-2, Shane Killeen 0-1.

In the quarter-final at Araglin, Kilworth had a 0-18 to 1-10 win over Fermoy. It was close all through with the winners holding a slight lead. Kilworth scorers: Elton Pierce 0-9, Paudie Lynch 0-3, Aidan Kenny 0-2, Brian Tobin 0-2, Joseph Cahill 0-1, Thomas Twomey 0-1.

Kildorrery had a 2-19 to 4-12 win over Churchtown at Doneraile, with the game close and exciting and in the balance to the end. Level 1-3 to 0-6 at half-time, at full-time it was 2-10 apiece. In extra time Kildorrery moved 2-16 to 2-10 ahead. Colm Conroy had a late goal for Churchtown but time ran out and it was Kildorrery who advanced to meet Castletown­roche in the quarter-final. Kildorrery scorers: Peter O’Brien 2-8, Andrew O’Brien 0-5, Michael Walsh 0-2, Eamonn O’Connor 0-2, Tom Monaghan 0-1, Stephen Coughlan 0-1.

In the quarter-final at Shanballym­ore, Kildorrery had a six point win over Castletown­roche, 1-18 to 1-12. Goals by David O’Brien, Kildorrery and Jonathan O’Callaghan Castletown’ left it 1-9 to 1-7 and by the 42nd minute, they were level for the 5th time, 1-11 apiece. Kildorrery had some late points that secured their place in the semi-final against Clyda Rovers. Kildorrery scorers: Peter O’Brien 0-10, Eamonn O’Connor 0-3, David O’Brien 1-0, Andrew O’Brien 0-2, Noel Dunne 0-1, Padraig Hanley 0-1, Stephen Coughlan 0-1.

In the JAHC semi-final, Kilworth who contested the 2004 final, were far too good for Ballycloug­h at Shanballym­ore, 1-15 to 0-4. The winners were 1-11 to 0-3 clear at half-time. Kilworth scorers: Paudie Lynch 1-3, Adrian Mannix 0-5, Elton Pierce 0-2, Thomas Twomey 0-2, Brian Tobin 0-1, Joe

Cahill 0-1, Aidan Kenny 0-1.

The second semi-final in Castletown­roche saw Clyda Rovers have a close 2-17 to 3-12 win over Kildorrery. The first half was very close with Clyda ahead at the break 1-7 to 1-6. Kildorrery had two early points on the resumption by Peter and Andrew O’Brien. Quick fire points by James Murphy (3) and Paudie Kissane opened up a four point lead at the end of the third quarter and Ray Carey goaled for the winners who then moved 8 points ahead, 2-15 to 1-10. Kildorrery made a massive rally and late goals by Tom Monaghan and Andrew O’Brien had them right back in the tie. However, time ran out and Clyda emerged deserving winners.

Kilworth and Clyda Rovers met in the final in Castletown­roche. It was a one-sided final. Kilworth had two early goals to lead 2-0 to 0-2 after 4 minutes. Clyda picked up considerab­ly and a series of points cut the lead, the score 2-3 to 0-9 after 15 minutes. Kilworth were two goals clear at the break 2-10 to 0-10. Points on the resumption by Paudie Lynch (2), Elton Pierce and Thomas Twomey opened up a big lead for Kilworth, 2-14 to 0-10 after 40 minutes. Niall O’Mullane goaled for Clyda Rovers, but Kilworth had two late goals from Dion Cahill and Elton Pierce to secure victory, 2-17 to 1-12.

COUNTY SERIES

In the county quarter-final at Páirc Uí Chaoimh, Kilworth made a great comeback to force a draw with Grenagh. With 11 minutes to go Grenagh led 1-8 to 0-5 and seemed on their way to the county semi-final. Kilworth were down to 13 players, but Elton Pierce with a powerful display saw Kilworth snatch a draw, 0-12 to 1-9. Kilworth scorers: Elton Pierce 0-7, Paudie Lynch 0-4, Joseph Cahill 0-1.

The replay in Buttevant saw Kilworth have a close win, 0-11 to 1-6. Grenagh had their goal early on and led by four points after 6 minutes and at half-time led by a point. Kilworth did well on the turnover and were 0-9 to 1-4 clear after 45 minutes. In a tense last quarter both sides had two points each, but Kilworth held out for a two point win. Their scorers were Paudie Lynch 0-4, Brian Tobin 0-2, Joseph Cahill 0-2, Adrian Mannix 0-1, Damian McNamara 0-1 and Elton Pierce 0-1.

Kilworth and Mayfield met in the county semi-final in Páirc Uí Rinn. Mayfield had two goals early on and Kilworth were five points adrift by the 12th minute. Paudie Lynch had a goal for Kilworth and they had some classy points that saw them 1-6 to 2-0 ahead at the break. Mayfield went ahead 2-5 to 1-7, but the ability of Kilworth to take some quality points saw them run out victorious, 1-12 to 2-6. Kilworth scorers: Paudie Lynch 1-8, Thomas Twomey 0-2, Adrian Mannix 0-1, James Moakley 0-1.

COUNTY FINAL

Kilworth came up against very stiff opponents in the county final in Fr. O’Neills. The game in Páirc Uí Rinn was close and tense. Kilworth, with a Thomas Twomey goal, led 1-6 to 0-5 at half-time. In the closing moments O’Neills were just a point clear, but two pointed frees from Ger O’Leary gave them victory, 0-15 to 1-9. Overall, the main difference was that the O’Neill’s forwards had more to offer. Fr O’Neills went on to claim Munster and All-Ireland success.

JBHC (1)

Killavulle­n represente­d the division in the county JBHC (1) and faced Macroom. This game finished all square in Donoughmor­e. The replay at Brinny saw Killavulle­n win

1-9 to 1-3. Killavulle­n led from the start and were 1- 7 to 0-1 ahead at half-time. The expected Macroom fightback did not materializ­e in the second half. Both defences did well and scores were scarce and the Avondhu side had a six point win. Killavulle­n scorers: Brian Fitzpatric­k 1-0, Tom Foley 0-2, Pat Egan 0-2, Darren Linehan 0-1, Pat O’Donovan 0-1, Declan Dorgan 0-1, Edward Linehan 0-1, Pa Sheehan 0-1.

The county semi-final was played in Ballynoe. Killavulle­n lost out narrowly to city side Lough Rovers, 3-9 to 3-7. Rovers had a goal after 23 minutes and led at half-time 1-6 to 0-2. Killavulle­n were expected to push on in the second half. Instead, it was a second goal for Rovers that opened up a 2-8 to 0-6 lead by the 44th minute. Rovers then had a third goal. Killavulle­n had three late goals by Declan Dorgan (2) and Joe Taylor, but it was Lough Rovers who advanced to the county final.

JBHC (2)

Newtownsha­ndrum were comfortabl­e winners over Ballygibli­n at Castletown­roche, 3-18 to 2-2.

An evenly balanced Kilworth side were 8 point winners over Kildorrery at Ballygibli­n, 1-12 to 1-4. Kilworth led all through, being 0-7 to 1-2 clear at half-time. Kilworth scorers : Elton Pierce 0-6, Brian Carey 1-1, Sean Beecher 0-2, Ned O’Brien 0-2, Mark O’Connor 0-1.

Newtownsha­ndrum had a 3-11 to 1-8 win over Charlevill­e in Milford, while Ballyhea had a 4-8 to 2-7 win over Milford in Dromina.

Ballyhea defeated Kilworth in the semi-final at Doneraile by 4-7 to 2-10. The second semi-final at Milford saw Newtownsha­ndrum overcome Dromina 3-9 to 0-11.

The final at Charlevill­e was a thriller and Newtownsha­ndrum took the title over Ballyhea, 1-15 to 3-7. Ballyhea held a 2-6 to 1-6 interval lead and the winners were just a point ahead in the closing moments, 1-14 to 3-7. Willie O’Mahony ensured the win for Newtown with an injury time point.
