DEAD DOG FOUND DUMPED NEAR MITCHELSTOWN
The shocking discovery of a dead springer spaniel type dog, dumped alongside rubbish in a fertiliser bag, was made on Tuesday morning by a Mitchelstown resident who wishes to remain anonymous.
The local resident was picking litter in Caherdrinna, close to the motorway flyover, when they made the gruesome discovery.
It is estimated that the bag containing the dog, as well as dog food packaging, a food bowl, and an assortment of household waste, had been present in the ditch on the Glocca Maura road for somewhere between one and four weeks.
The dog is a dark brown and white springer spaniel of indeterminate age. There is no evidence of how the animal met its end, but it is still wearing a collar and the person who found it believes it may be microchipped and therefore the culprit may be easily identified.
‘A PAINT CAN OR WINE BOTTLE DOESN’T HAVE FEELINGS’
As well as being an extremely anti-social example of dumping, the circumstances of the dog’s death are also a cause for concern that animal cruelty may have been involved.
“If that’s how the animal has been treated in death, what kind of treatment did this dog get while it was alive?” the person who discovered the bag said. “It’s horrible, totally unacceptable in society, for someone to do this.”
“We’re used to littering in the area, but a paint can or a wine bottle doesn’t have feelings. This poor dog did, and how he ended up in the bag is something you don’t really want to think about.”
