ARAGLIN GAA NOT STANDING STILL

Club chairman, Thomas Kenneally Jr., is keeping members on their toes and despite the country’s level 5 lockdown status, the former county winning hurler has a considerab­le ‘to do’ list.

CLUB MEETING

Members were kept up to speed with club developmen­ts at a Microsoft Teams meeting held last Monday night. Items on the agenda included: the Sports Capital Grant applicatio­n, update on field trustees discussion­s, financial matters, championsh­ip entries and grass cutting.

CONTRIBUTI­ON TO ST. PATRICK’S DAY EVENT

An online St. Patrick’s Day event is taking place in Araglin - this will involve lighting the famous Doon waterfall, close to the source of the Araglin river. John Joseph Donovan and Tom Leddy are the main organisers. At last Monday’s meeting, it was agreed to donate €100 towards the cost of staging the event.

SPORTS CAPTIAL GRANT APPLICATIO­N COMPLETE

The club is hoping that funding for club developmen­t can be secured through a Sports Capital Grant scheme. We’ve completed the necessary paperwork and with a bit of luck, a few quid will come our way.

NO APPETITE FOR 13-A-SIDE COMPETITIO­NS

Having taken part in this exercise last year, the club have formed the opinion that 13-a-side league games are of little benefit. Set up to accommodat­e ‘second teams’, feedback from our players and management was almost universall­y negative.

NORTH CORK HURLING C’SHIP STATUS UNCERTAIN

Araglin are the only team left in north Cork, whose ‘first’ hurling team is a junior B team - as a result, we’ve run out of opposition. This was the case last year and could be the case again for 2021. Faced with this situation in 2020, we entered a third tier competitio­n (junior C hurling) and were duly knocked out by Buttevant.

NEW LOTTO SIGN PUT UP

The club have erected a new roadside lotto sign, which is situated at the Mountain Barracks. Thanks to John Browne Sr. for looking after this job.

REBELS’ BOUNTY

Rebels’ Bounty is the new name for the county board draw. This draw takes place on Thursday, 25th March. If you wish to enter please contact club treasurer, Tony Hyland ASAP.

BACK TO SCHOOL

Pupils made a welcome return to Araglin N.S. last Monday. The consensus was it was great to be back. Anyone considerin­g enroling their child for next September should contact the school.
