Individual training continues

-

Senior and junior ladies continue their individual training each week, putting in a great effort. While it is tough to keep it going during these times the girls continue to encourage one another each week, making good progress in their preparation for getting back on the pitch when it is safe to do so.

PLAYER PROFILE

This week our ladies player profile feature continues and next up is currently player Isobel Pyne.

Name: Isobel Pyne. Age: 23. Occupation: Marketing Graduate. Position: Midfielder / Forward (who knows really, it’s always a surprise on match day). Career highlight: Winning the 2016 county final in Castlelyons. Favourite film: The Blind Side. Favourite food: Martina Pyne’s Curry.

When and where did you first start playing? I always played out the back garden with my dad and brothers when I was young, then at about the age of 10 I started playing with Fermoy ladies. Favourite Venue? Fermoy’s main pitch (on the rare occasion we get to play there). Favourite GAA player? Saoirse Moore (Captain Fantastic). Sportsperson you would most like to meet? Aimee Mullins. What is the hardest part of your sporting life? Trying to juggle college work, sport and socialising. Toughest player to mark in training? Michelle Parker (she scares me, make sure you have your gum shield in when she comes near you). Laziest player you’ve played with: Teresa Murphy (sorry T). Joker on the panel? That has got to be Marie Bailey, there’s never a dull moment when she is around!

Greatest influence growing up? Eamonn Ryan, Ger Murphy, my brothers and my parents.

Would you change anything about either game? I wouldn’t change anything. Most important skill in hurling and football? Being quick off the mark! A corner back’s worst nightmare is marking a player who is constantly moving and quick off the mark. Of course kicking off both legs is always a bonus and support play is crucial (ask Denis Twomey about this). One thing you may not know about me: I speak and studied German at University and spent a semester abroad in Germany.

Advice for young players starting off: Playing sports is all about having fun, so enjoy every moment of it! Remember it is not all about winning and kicking every shot over the bar, practice makes perfect, practice as much as you can, whether it is out

the back garden on your own or at the pitch with your friends. Finally, never ever give up in a game, no matter how much you are winning or losing by, just keep supporting each other.

Lastly pick your own 6 aside inter county team: hurling/football. Goalkeeper: Monica McGuirk. Fullback: Niamh Collins. Halfback: Ashling Hutchings. Midfielder: Saoirse Moore. Half forward: Orla Finn. Full forward: Eimear Scally.
