The Avondhu

Delayed draw to go ahead soon

-

As has been mentioned previously, we were unable to hold our annual Christmas Draw at the end of December or in the following months, due to the public health restrictions. The tickets have been in circulation since early November, hence we are very keen to complete the draw. To this end, we plan to hold the draw in a safe and compliant manner on the week after St Patrick’s Day.

Naturally all tickets that have been purchased will be entered into the draw. We are currently arranging a system whereby tickets can be safely returned to the club while ensuring that there are no unnecessary public gatherings. If any member of our community has not bought tickets and would like to, we have set up online tickets through the ClubForce application. Please check our social media pages for the link.

REBELS’ BOUNTY

Our Christmas Draw will take place on the same week as the first of draws for the Cork GAA Rebels’ Bounty initiative. This will take place on March 25th and the draws will take place for the months of January, February and March. White’s Cross GAA has very exciting plans for 2021 including the development of a flood-lit astro-turf training facility. Fundraising has been hampered in these challenging times but now we are reaching out to our members and their families asking them to consider supporting this Rebels’ Bounty Draw.

Our community has been very generous in supporting the club through the Cork GAA Clubs Draw ever since it was launched in the 1990s. Our club put a big push on that draw when we levelled our main playing pitch in 1997. Teams of members went door-to-door in that era and collected the monthly subscription from members that supported the club. This year’s development marks the biggest project that the club has an undertaken since then (though there have been some big incremental improvements) and it coincides with re-launch so to speak of the new GAA club’s draw in the

Rebels’ Bounty guise. These days technology facilitates easier selling of the tickets. You can go online and buy the tickets at https://gaacork. ie/rebelsbounty/. Please be sure to select White’s Cross as your Club!

However, we do acknowledge that not everybody will be comfortable purchasing online. Any club committee member is willing to help for those that would like to buy in the traditional way. Please contact our club draw co-ordinator Pat on 085-1016564.

UNDERAGE AGM

Our juvenile club held their AGM via Microsoft Teams on Tuesday, February 23 under the chairmanship of Sean Coughlan. It was conducted in a timely and efficient manner. Over 20 people joined the meeting which was actually an increase in numbers since the previous meeting a year ago which was held in the traditional format. The four officers gave their reports which were excellently prepared. These reports mostly focussed on the younger age groups as the U11 to minor teams had been covered in the previously held St Colmcilles AGM. They also reflected on the huge progress that the girls’ teams had made during the year which saw White’s Cross LGFC play its first ever competitive game. The coaches of all the teams were thanked for their efforts. Though all play a huge part, the contribution of the Twomey family who are involved with U6s was noted. They have no direct member of their family playing in that age group yet they give up their time each Friday to coach and organise matches. This is incredible dedication. Conor Kelleher, Ciaran Allen and others also did this job for many years and similarly had no family member involved.

The election of officers was presided over by overall club chairman Mike O’Flynn. All outgoing officers were again nominated and seconded for their positions. All accepted. Therefore, for 2021 the White’s Cross juvenile GAA club officers will be Sean Coughlan (chairman), Kevin O’Callaghan (secretary), Brian Harte (treasurer) and Finbarr Pyne (communications and development officer). The meeting was thus concluded.
