Local musicians remember Thomas O’Donoghue
On the first anniversary of his untimely death, members of Kilworth Guitar & Music Club have marked the occasion by commissioning a portrait of their good friend, Thomas O’Donoghue from Macroney.
A keen sportsman who played for Fermoy Rugby Club, Thomas was also an accomplished musician, whose talent blossomed when he joined Kilworth Guitar & Music Club. Good humoured and enthusiastic, Thomas was a popular and much appreciated member of the music club, who based themselves in the back room of The Village Inn, Kilworth.
A watercolour by Kilworth artist Pawel Wroblewski of Thomas performing live, was presented to Thomas’s brother, Peter, at a socially distanced event outside The Village Inn last week. According to Kilworth Guitar & Music Club spokesperson Rob Brosnan, they are delighted with the painting.
“It really captures the spirit of Thomas. Pawel has done an exceptional job,” Rob told The Avondhu.
Working from a photograph, Pawel has gone to great lengths to produce a brilliant image. In accepting the painting, Peter O’Donoghue thanked the club, Pawel and Chris O’Brien of The Village Inn for a gesture that is much appreciated by the O’Donoghue family.
‘WONDERFUL MEMORIES’
Greatly restricted by Covid-19 regulations, Kilworth Guitar & Music Club are looking forward to the day when rehearsals can resume once again in the back room of The Village Inn.
“We had great nights there with Thomas. He has left us with some wonderful memories. Everyone is looking forward to going back, whenever that will be,” Rob said.
