Cian secures new jerseys for Anglesboro NS
Local secondary school student Cian Hogan was pipped at the post to top a competition poll last Friday, in his efforts to win a set of jerseys for his old primary school in Anglesboro, having garnered over 3,600 votes.
5 teams went head to head in both the schools and club category ‘voteoff ’ in the ID Sports ‘Design a Jersey’ competition and the Anglesboro native was leading right until the closing stages last Friday, March 5th.
Cian garnered 35% of the total votes, an amazing figure considering the might of the school that won the competition, namely St Flannan’s College in Ennis, which saw their student gain a mere 0.4% extra of the vote – or 34 votes – to be announced as overall winner.
However, due to the close nature of the final result, organisers kindly decided to award a set of jerseys to valiant runner-up Cian, who’s a 2nd year student at CBS Primary School in Mitchelstown.
The stylish jersey design by the Mitchelstown secondary student fnow means his old alma mater can now look forward to new sporting tops, thanks to their former pupil’s efforts.
All at the school are very proud of Cian’s achievement, and principal Sean Kearney was high in his praise that Cian had thought of his old primary school when entering the competition, some 2 years after leaving, having moved on to secondary school.
Pre-school owner and caretaker at Anglesboro National School, Mary Hogan – Cian’s mother – expresses her thanks to everyone for coming on board in their effort to secure first place; the West Waterford native also gaining a lot of support from her home county. ID Sports are also to be thanked for their generosity in awarding the extra set of jerseys.
Gary O’Donnell, a pupil at Glenahulla National School, secured a 4th place position in the competition, winning €150 in school sports equipment.
