Corrin Mart report

-

Another week and I’m glad to report another strong lively trade was seen right across the board for all stock this week.

Weather is in our favour, ground conditions are improving underfoot and so we are able to take full advantage of the grass that’s available.

Numbers showing up for sale were increased again this week in Corrin, but this increase certainly did not put a damper on the trade. This is not surprising giving the amount of interest and enquiries we have at the moment looking for cattle, with this week’s cattle going to all corners of the country.

DRY COWS

A large number of cows again this week showed a considerable stronger trade. All weights were improved with many buyers bidding aggressively for all lots.

Store cows: 400 to 550kgs making from €1.30 per kilo to €1.73 per kilo.

Heavier cows: 550 kgs+ making from €1.40 per kilo up to €1.94 per kilo.

Friesian 585kg €1,000; Limousin 800kg €1,480; Friesian 565kg €900.

BULLOCKS

Numbers increased considerably again this week. Last week’s improved trade was easily maintained and actually improved especially for lighter stores going out to grass.

Light stores: under 350kgs made from €1.50 per kilo for plain Friesians up to €2.45 for continental bullocks. With AA/Hereford types making from €2.00 per kilo up to €2.70 per kilo.

Medium stores: 350kgs to 500kgs staring at €1.60 for Friesians up to €2.46 per kilo for continentals. AA/Hereford bullocks made from €2.02 up to €2.25 per kilo.

Frwd stores: 500 to 600kgs. The plainer Friesians started at €1.60 per kilo up to €2.30 per kilo for Continentals. Hereford/AA made from €1.95 up to €2.20 per kilo.

Heavy Bullocks: 600 kgs+. Good demand for heavy bullocks making from €1.75 up to €2.25 per kilo.

HEIFERS

The extraordinary trade for heifers last week could hardly have been maintained this week. But even though, trade was still steady even if it was easier for some stores.

Store heifers: under 400kgs made from €1.90 up to €2.45 per kilo. AA/ Hereford averaged at €2.00 per kilo.

Butchers heifers: 400kgs+. These type heifers made from €2.00 up to €2.35 per kilo, with AA/Hereford averaging at €2.12 per kilo.
