Parish of Lismore and Ballysaggart news
Our parish is hit by the imminent closure of Bank of Ireland where the parish has banked for many years. Such an event raises the more basic question; what are banks for? As banks to not have to go out and seek funds to fund their lending, rather drop a note to the ECB are we living in a time of economic colonization.
We do know that economics as a science is not an exact science, for it were it would have seen the recent banking crash. The recent scandal at Daly stockbrokers is probably only as they say ‘the tip of the iceberg’. The trust needed in today’s business and communications world is what holds people’s loyalty, a loyalty that may no longer be taken for granted.
We must keep up the pressure to get our places of worship open for public worship for Holy Week. Too much silence in this matter is not good. If you are in touch with your local or national democratically elected representatives, do keep them reminded.
In the meantime, continue to pray as a family using resources from Facebook or Youtube. There are many useful resources. The churches are open for personal prayer. We are proud of both buildings and are a credit to you who generously fund their ongoing renovation and maintenance.
When in church with your family you might consider walking the way of the Cross. You can simply look at each Station picture and say what you see. It is through our senses that we take in our world in all its wonder.
We wish our schools every blessing and success as they welcome back their pupils and students. There is a real sense of relief in the lives of the children and teachers. School is so much more than learning through eyes only. Socialization is part of growing in our humanity. Instead of using the phrase ‘ social distance’ we may be clearer and more factual if we talked of ‘physical distance’ for that is what we are all doing
With mothering Sunday, 14th March, you will want to honour your mother if she is still alive. Adult children know the right thing to do for the sake of their mother. The best way to prepare for your mother’s death is being kind and compassionate while still alive, maybe even a little fail with the burden of the years. After all, aging will catch each one of us if we survive an early death. May our Good Friday lead on to Easter.
Our Mass continues on Radio 103.9fm at 6.15pm vigil Mass and 11am on Sunday morning with Ballysaggart Mass on Facebook St Marys Sunday Morning Mass Ballysaggart at 9.30am. Thanks to all who continue to drop in their weekly offerings.
