BUSY WEEK ALL ROUND

-

It has been a busy week for Seandún Macra as we started off the week with a pre regional officers meeting for our regional officers. We came up with many ideas for upcoming events so stay tuned to our social media pages. Wednesday saw us have our regional meeting which was attended by lots of clubs. It was a great way to catch up with our members and we’re looking forward to our upcoming events.

Saturday saw Cork County Macra PRO Aishling O’Keefe do one of our weekly radio slots on C103fm. She did a fantastic job of talking about Cork County Macra’s upcoming 70th anniversary celebrations which will be held via zoom on the 23rd of April. They are asking all clubs past and present to send in memorabilia photos and a 100 word text also about their club. They are looking forward to seeing past and present members joining them on the night.

This week was an exciting one for UCC Macra as they held their first ever virtual big week on the farm. This involved a series of instagram takeovers and well known guest speaker talks. Monday saw them welcome Cork Dairy farmer Pat Aherne. Pat administers homeopathic remedies to his animals and he spoke about how he established and promotes the education of homeopathy on the farm. He also discussed about his own personal use of homeopathy.

On Tuesday, they organised a talk from Kildare dairy farmer, Executive Director at Glanbia, Director of the National Cattle Breeding Centre and B&B owner Vincent Gorman about how the abolition of quotas in Ireland, and the associated expansion has changed the dairy industry for the better and for the worse as part of their big week on the farm. He also spoke about his own journey from 75 cows to almost 400 cows.

Make sure to join them on Thursday as the last of their guest speakers will be Dairy Sustainability Advisor at Carbery Group, Aoife Feeney on to talk about all things Agriculture, the Environment and Sustainability. In recent times there has been increasing focus coming on Irish Agriculture, particularly dairying as regards pollution and emissions. On the night she will outline the many actions farmers can take to reduce their carbon footprint as well as outline the progress made by West Cork Dairy farmers in recent years to work with the environment combating greenhouse gas emissions to make Irish Dairy products world leaders in taste, quality and environmental friendliness! Make sure to PM Seandun or UCC for the link.

We also celebrated International Women’s Day on Monday by highlighting our six leading ladies and all the work they do. Every woman’s success should be an inspiration to another. We’re strongest when we cheer each other on was our motto. Seandún are lucky to have six leading ladies on our commitee who do a mighty job in each of their roles for the good of the region. We also have many ladies across all of our clubs who work hard everyday and we’re proud of all of them.

Make sure to tune into our instagram page this Thursday as Carrigaline Macra member John Bryan will be taking over our instagram stories to show our followers around his farm. Muskerry Macra PRO Daniel Buckley will also be talking on our farm talk slot this Saturday.
