Novel initiative for St. Patrick’s Day

-

For the second year in a row, all St. Patrick’s Day festivities have been curtailed. Keen to boost the morale of locals, a small organising committee, under the guidance of John Joseph O’Donovan and Tom Leddy, came up with the novel idea to illuminate the famous Doon waterfall in Araglin.

For the last number of weeks, these lads have been beavering away fine tuning their plans and soon all will be in readiness for Lá Le Pádraig. The end product will take the form of an online show, featuring pre-recorded music, song and dance, along with photographs, greetings from abroad and a variety of video clips. Further details are available from the Facebook page ‘lighting the doons’. Local clubs will be sent a YouTube link at 7.30pm on Wednesday, 17th March.

WORK IN THE COMMUNITY FIELD

Last Saturday was marked down as ‘a work day’ in the community field and we’re glad to report that the gutters and downpipe serving ‘the old dressing rooms’ have been replaced. Thanks to John Browne Sr. and his crew for carrying out the necessary repairs.

COMMUNITY FIELD WATER UPDATE

Having endured almost half a century of an unreliable water supply to the community field, Araglin GAA took the decision a few years ago to drill for an independent water source. This has proved very successful and as a result, everyone availing of Araglin Community Field has access to excellent drinking water.

EPS Mallow employee, John O’Brien from Ballard, monitors the system, which includes a sophisticated water filtering process. John was on hand last Saturday to complete the necessary checks and the club takes this opportunity to acknowledge his important contribution.

MORE BITS AND PIECES TO BE DONE

With other improvement and maintenance work to be carried out, the expectation is that additional ‘work days’ will be organised. Anyone interesting in lending their labour or expertise should contact a club officer.

GREAT WORK OF THE LOTTO COMMITTEE CONTINUES

Thankfully, our lotto, in an online format, has been able to continue. Club chairman, Tom Kenneally Jr. draws the numbers (1 - 32) with finance committee member, John Byron, charged with checking online entries. Assistant treasurer, John Martin Browne, counts the cash, checks the ten line cards and dispenses the consolation prizes when the lotto jackpot isn’t won.
