Fantastic response to Rebels’ Bounty draw

-

There has been a fantastic response to date to the Rebels’ Bounty draw from the Castletownroche community. We have exceeded the minimum quota of tickets that the club needs to sell, so 100% of proceeds from every ticket sold from now on goes to Castletownroche GAA Club. This is a great boost to the club, particularly in this difficult environment for fundraising. A huge thanks to everybody who has supported to date.

There are just over two weeks to go before the deadline for entry in to the 2021 draw, with the closing date set for 5pm on March 25. Tickets cost €100 for the year and there is a prize fund of €500,000. If you would like to find out more details or are interested in joining the draw for the coming year, please contact Mick Sugrue 0876175447, Bobby Hazelwood 0879261367 or any club member.

CLUB LOTTO RESUMES

After a pause in activity due to level 5 Covid restrictions, the bi-weekly club lotto resumes on Sunday next, March 14. During 2020, the lotto jackpot was won twice, with one lucky winner scooping €7,000, with another luck winner pocketing €1,700 just before Christmas. The current jackpot stands at €1,200. Tickets are available through local retail outlets in the village, from your usual sellers or through any club officer.

IRISH LIFE ‘EVERY STEP COUNTS’ CHALLENGE

The Irish Life sponsored ‘Every Step Counts’ challenge came to an end on Wednesday last. The minimum target to be reached collectively was a distance of 4,000km and Castletownroche GAA Club, supported by the entire community, surpassed the target comfortably, finishing 73rd out of all the clubs who entered in Munster, logging just over 7500kms. This was all the more impressive when you consider we started about 2 weeks after everyone else. It was great to see so many people take part and a huge thanks to everybody who supported and made sure their steps counted. The club now qualify for a draw for GAA gear, which will take place at a future date.

TRAINING

In years gone by, pre-season training would be coming to an end and league action would be about to commence. However, with the level 5 Covid restrictions continuing until early April, the club has had to adapt with the times. It is great to see so many of the adult panel working on individual training plans and taking part in the Zoom training sessions. Everybody is eagerly looking forward to getting out there on the pitch and getting back in to collective training, in the knowledge that the work done since early January will be invaluable once the season starts in earnest.

JUVENILE CLUB AGM

The Juvenile Club AGM is scheduled to take place on Friday, March 19 (time tbc). For obvious reasons, this will take place virtually and notification will be issued to all parents on how to register for the meeting in the coming days. It is essential that all players are represented by at least one parent as the club outlines their plans for the coming year, so please make sure to attend and see how you can help to ensure the smooth running of the club.

CASTLETOWNROCHE NATIONAL SCHOOL PARENTS ASSOCIATION FUNDRAISER

This St Patrick’s Day, the Parents Association of Castletownroche NS are organising a virtual 5km fun run with the proceeds going towards the construction of a “Sensory Space” for all of the pupils of the school. Simply walk, run or crawl 5km with your family and make a donation using the link: www.idonate.ie/CastletownrocheSchoolFundraiser.

Children can get a free event snood by completing a series of simple household tasks to help mums and dads. Children’s sponsorship cards are available by emailing castletownrochens@gmail.com. Alternatively children’s or adult event snoods can be purchased for €10 by contacting the school at this address. Finally, without a St Patrick’s Day parade this year, the parents association thought it might be fun to encourage families to dress up in fancy dress for the event. Please feel free to forward any photographs to this email address also.
