PLAYER PROFILE CAMOGIE PLAYER/COACH PROFILE

Name: Louise McGann. Age? in my thirties! Occupation? Social care. Position? Corner or wing back. Career highlight? Winning league and county medals with Castlelyons

Favourite film? Can’t think of one. Favourite food? Steak. When and where did you first start playing? played for a small bit as a kid in Bishopstown didn’t play again until my twenties while I lived in Brussels for few months. Came home and joined Castlelyons.

Favourite camogie player? All the underage girls in Fermoy especially the older girls (U16/U14) who only started playing 4/5 years ago and play like they have played from u6! They should be very proud. What is the hardest part of your sporting life? Juggling playing, coaching the girls, dropping boys to their training and having a husband so involved.

Toughest player to mark in training? Aibhin O’Sullivan, you couldn’t catch her!

Joker on the panel? Will go with all the U6/8/10 Fermoy girls on this, they are a funny bunch, always someone messing and chatting or doing cartwheels. Greatest influence? my kids... I keep trying to retire from playing but it would ruin their social lives if I did! Would you change anything about the game? Some referees think that just because we are ladies we are not tough so should let the game flow more.

Most important skill in camogie? Being able to strike off both sides is a big advantage. Advice for young players starting off: Practice, practice, practice ... use your 4 steps and don’t panic, be confident. Lastly pick your own 6 aside inter county team: Goalkeeper: Emma Louise Wall (Fermoy), full back: Aideen Wall (Fermoy), half back: Katie McGann (Fermoy), midfielder: Cliona Wall (Fermoy), half forward: Sarah Crowley (Fermoy), full forward: Isla Crowley (Bride Rovers).
