U21 team of 1990

-

Last but not least - this week features the U21 team of 1990. Traditionally the U21 championship was always the last to be played and so it was in 1990. Captained by Paul Prendergast who was the young hurler of the year in 1987, Lismore captured the divisional title defeating Cappoquin on a score-line of 0-07 to 0-06, retaining the cup they won the previous season.

Huge anticipation was to build after all the other underage county titles came back to Lismore. The pressure was palpable and on a memorable day against a splendid Mount Sion team with their own big-name players, Lismore attained their hardest won victory, beating the city side 4-07 to 4-06. The excitement of players and supporters gave a clear indication of what winning the ‘grand slam’ meant to the club. The accolade of ‘Club of the Year’ was to round off the most successful period in the club and as we know 1991 was the accumulation of all that hard work, winning the senior title. It must be said the juvenile club is still in a very good place and while we haven’t reached the heights of 1990, we continue to compete at the top level and still produce players of inter county standard. Lismore are a strong club in every respect and they have reason to believe that they can be the club of the future. Time, and a lot of other things will tell.

The U21 panel of 1990: Declan Landers, Mark O’Sullivan, Kieran Clancy, Pat O’Gorman, Kieran O’Gorman, Dave Barry, Eamonn Power, Martin O’Brien, Johnny Ahearne, Anthony Tinnelly, Michael O’Sullivan, Michael Hickey, Alan Dunne, Sean Daly, Paul Prendergast (capt), Michael Barry, James Hickey, PJ Coughlan, Mark Clancy, Paddy O’Donnell, Philip Hickey, Paddy Nugent, Richie Nugent, Brendan Ormonde, Dermot Ormonde, Pa Kenneally and Ken Cullen.
