DRAFT FUNDING PROPOSALS OF OVER €240K FOR LOCAL PROJECTS REVEALED
A major injection of funding has been announced by Fermoy Municipal District.
The draft proposals for the Community Grants, Town Development Fund, Village Enhancement Scheme as well as other plans, were unveiled to councillors during the virtual March monthly MD meeting, held on Tuesday.
The funding which comprises of €243,107.75, will be sent to local groups across the area to fund projects and other works. The money allocated was €198,000, but Municipal District Officer Pauline Moriarty found a way to increase the kitty by contacting those with unused grants from the period 2015 to 2018.
The draft Village Enhancement Scheme proposes that Doneraile will receive €62,500, while Coolagown could also receive €62,500. The monies will be used for ‘enhancements to public realm at three locations to include street furniture, planters, walkways and tree planting’.
The Town Development Fund plan would see Fermoy receive €43,537, whereas Mitchelstown would get €25,080 out of a total of €68,617. The work in Mitchelstown would involve painting schemes, rewiring for Christmas lighting and solar powered lighting on the 2.2km linked road on the outskirts of the town. While there is a funding proposal for €8,000 to allow for wheelchair access to St Fanahan’s Well, an issue reported on previously by The Avondhu. In Fermoy, there are proposed allocations of €28,537 for replacement of outdoor gym equipment and lighting of trees. There is also €10,000 for the ‘Knockananig Reservoir Masterplan’.
There are also other funding streams for groups and bodies across the region.
All councillors welcomed the news of the funding and praised the council officials for their efforts. The funding will now go forward for examination and the full funding will be announced to the public in the coming weeks.
