Hector looking to ‘Talk E.D.’

-

An important campaign which aims to encourage men to talk about erectile dysfunction (ED) in an open manner, has been launched.

Broadcaster Hector Ó hEochagáin will host a new seven-part video series which will see him chat with leading advocates on a variety of topics relating to ED, including relationships and nutrition, as well as physical and mental health. Dr Phil Kieran, Richie Sadlier, Dr Allison Keating and Paula Mee are just some of those who are taking part in the series.

Key findings from a survey conducted with 511 Irish men on attitudes to erectile dysfunction revealed that a third of men say that they have experienced difficulty achieving an erection and half said they have had an experience of ED at some stage.

Moreover, over half (54%) say they feel embarrassed discussing the issue with a family member, friend or partner. However, despite it being an uncomfortable topic to talk about, 63% feel that erectile problems should be talked about more openly.

Commenting on the launch of the ‘Talk E.D.’ campaign, launched by Viatris, Hector said: “I am delighted to be involved in the ‘Talk E.D.’ campaign and start a national conversation on this important issue for men.

“Over the course of the campaign, I’ll be chatting to experts from a variety of disciplines to discuss the impact of ED on everything from relationships to mental health. I hope with this series we can get more people talking about ED in an open manner and empower men to seek advice from a GP or pharmacist if they are experiencing issues.”

Episode 1 of ‘Talk E.D.’ is available to watch on Hector’s Facebook page now and a new episode will launch weekly until mid-April.
