Major fundraising drive for Glenahulla car park works

- NIALL O’CONNOR

Glenahulla National School have unveiled a major plan to develop a specialist carpark to help make school trips more safe.

Principal Padraig Fitzgerald and his hardworking team had purchased the adjoining site where the now derelict shop was located.

The next plan is to initiate a project to turn that site into a purpose built car park to enable parents and staff have a dedicated and safe location, to park cars.

Padraig said that the plan is in a two phased approach with the demolition of the existing dwelling, the shop. There are plans to leave an extension at the rear which will be used as a storage area.

The second phase will see a full development of the site which will include landscaping and markings for spaces and a one way system.

“Thankfully due to the enormous success of the ‘Glenahulla I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here!’ fundraiser held in November 2019, the Board of Management was in a position to acquire a community loan to complete the purchase of the ‘shop’ site.

“Like other clubs, schools and organisations, the current global Covid-19 pandemic has forced fundraising efforts to go online. With that in mind I would like to introduce you to ‘The Glenahulla 10’. Money raised from this draw will go towards meeting monthly loan repayments.

“We are now hoping to use this money to complete the work at the site which would help our school greatly,” he said.

Glenahulla N.S Fundraising Committee are asking friends of Glenahulla NS to contribute €10 per month (just €2.50 a week) to join ‘The Glenahulla 10’ Development Draw.

Members of ‘The Glenahulla 10’ will be in with a chance of winning one of two cash prizes every 3 months, from a prize fund of 10% of money received. Quarterly draws will take place in school towards the end of March, June, September and December.

As a special introductory bonus, one lucky winner will win €100 at the end of March and April, with the first official quarterly draw taking place on Wednesday, June 23. Becoming a member is easy - the details on how to join can be found on the school’s social media pages.

“I hope this fundraiser gets the support of the entire school community of Glenahulla NS. I would encourage families to sign up and maybe enlist other family members who might like to support and contribute kindly to our cause.

“This is all being done so that one day we can be satisfied that our children, parents and teachers can arrive and leave Glenahulla NS in a safe, secure and stress free manner,” Padraig added.
